Administrator
Dear Airvrm,Please see below:------Original Message-----From: Listmanager To: Recipients of 'discussion-session' suppressed 'discussion-session' suppressed>Date: Friday, April 09, 1999 6:03 PMSubject: Yin & Yang Feng Shui Quote From: "Airvrm Teo" This message is sent from "discussion-session" Mailing List.I read the book "Feng Shui WorkBook" by WuXing. In the book on page 18 & 19 it is stated that for a house - the yangdomain theleft dragon and right tiger is seen as standing from outside the houselooking at the main door of the houseAnd for the Yin domain the left dragon andright tiger is as see from the Grave lookingoutwards. Lets look at the explanation:-1. Under the Shapes and Form School `concept';The dragon is always on the Yang Domain. This is because, the dragon isalways a yang `animal'. And in fact the most Yang of all animals. Here, byright, it should not be considered as under the Yin domain. This is because, under the Five elements concept, it is Green and Green =East, a location of rising sun which is a Yang location.Contrast this with the White Tiger. If we look through the colour `chart'White is located at the West. Therefore, in theory, we see them fit under this condition.2. However, what I understand what Wu is trying to do. He is using the FourSymbolic Animals `loosely' as an overall template where it does not matterabout the position of the four symbolic animals but listing them in order oftheir `positions'.Let me illustrate, if he placed the Dragon at the West, the Tiger now islocated at the East. The Black Tortise is at the back and the Red Phoenix atthe front.I think a few users here will get further confused because I mentioned thismodel but overall, do take note that the Four Symbolic Animals represent afew concepts and the reason why it is so widely used is that it is a`pictoral' illustration and pictures are much easier to visualise.Under Wu's `method' the objective; I believe what he wants to do is to checkthe position of the four positions in relation to a site. In this case, itdoes not matter whether the Dragon is at any of the four true compass point.I do not want to confuse you or many users here further as there is anotherconcept, and this has been explained clearly in the Applied Feng Shuicertificate course. To conclude, just remember that since it is so easy to refer to things in adiagram or picture, the Four Symbolic Animals concept is widely used indifferent concepts to explain relationships and things. I hope you get apicture of what I am saying:)Warmest Regards,Cecil -->
pikkie
Dear CecilIs it not true that there is a difference between the form/shape school and the compass school in their methods for finding the green dragon and white tiger?i.e. I've read that for the form/shape school, you stand at your front door, facing outwards and the green dragon is on the left and the white tiger is on the right, regardless of the direction your main entrance is facing. Then is it true that the Compass School would find the green dragon to the east and white tiger to the west as per the compass readings (also regardless of which way your main entrance faces.) After all, not everyone's homes face South.Just when I think I have a handle on this concept, something else confuses me.Please comment.Best RegardsToni Pedro
Administrator
Dear Toni,Please see below:------Original Message-----From: Listmanager To: Recipients of 'discussion-session' suppressed 'discussion-session' suppressed>Date: Sunday, April 11, 1999 9:05 PMSubject: Re: Yin & Yang Feng Shui Quote From: "Toni Pedro" This message is sent from "discussion-session" Mailing List.Dear CecilIs it not true that there is a difference between the form/shape schooland the compass school in their methods for finding the green dragon andwhite tiger? Yes, I agree with you. Recently, there are quite alot of correspondence onthis. I understand that it is rather confusing to follow. One minute, it isthis and another minute another interpretation.Let me elaborate further:-1. First forget what we have understood of the differences on this subject. The reason for using this model e.g. a dragon, tiger, tortise orphoenix is that it is easier to explain things using apicture or a `pictorial model'. The saying goes: " A picture tells orpaints a thousand words ".To me, I feel that this is why, there are so many different uses forthe above Four Symbolic Animals Concept. This is why, some like me prefer to add the word " Symbolic " into thismodel. In the recent Applied Feng Shui course, I even listed a third use ofthe 4 Symbolic Animals Concept and duringthe last forum message on this, one user also brought up another usageby an author .. whose Chinese Surname is Wu.Due to the simplicity of a picture `within' a picture, this will explainwhy we can be confused with the same model usedby e.g. the two schools e.g. Shapes and Form and Compass School FengShui.Actually in the Applied Feng Shui course, I gave a further distinctionto the students so that in the future, if they wereto graduate or go into practise, they can use what I have suggested bothin writing books or in their practise:-If we are only refering to it under the Shapes and Form School,Simply call them (without their colours) e.g. Dragon, Tiger, Tortiseand Phoenix or Bird. (by the way there is a centreanimal called the Snake). But if it is applied under the Compass School, do call them : GREENDragon, WHITE tiger, BLACK tortise, RED Phoenix. Why is the distinction? This will answer your earlier question. Under the Five elements concept, each colour represents a direction. For example GREEN = EAST, WHITE = WEST (true cardinal point) etc...Here, you will now see the distinction. When we simply use the words, dragon, tiger, etc.. under the Shapes and FormSchool, we no longer see that there is a colour `profile' attached to thewords and thus I hope, we will no longer beconfused that e.g. RED must be the South etc.... Therefore, sincethere is no longer a direction attached to each animals under this method, some one like an author can then put forth a clear meaning e.g. the Phoenixrepresents `clear space' and should be at the front and the tortise, symbollic of "solid support "Hope the above helps you to understand better.Warmest Regards,Cecil Quote i.e. I've read that for the form/shape school, you stand at your frontdoor, facing outwards and the green dragon is on the left and the whitetiger is on the right, regardless of the direction your main entrance isfacing.
