Poison Arrows and crystals

Val

Recommended Posts

Hi,
I am new to Feng Shui. My knowledge so far is only from a Lillian Too book, so I'm very pleased to have found your forum. I am in the process of applying the Compass School/Pa Kua/Eight Life Aspirations to each room of my house. I would be very grateful if you could answer a couple of points that are not clear to me.
1. Poison Arrows: when it states that a protruding corner in a room, or the corner of a large piece of furniture is a poison arrow, is it only when it has a sharp edge
(i.e. a 90% angle)? Is it still a poison arrow if the edge is rounded slightly?
2. Crystals: I have read that crystals represent the earth element, and also suggestions to hang them in a window, but, is it okay to use them in any sector irregardless of the Productive/Destructive cycle of the five elements? And if crystals are hung in a window, what do they achieve?
I look forward to your reply.
Thanks,
Val

Hi,
I am new to Feng Shui. My knowledge so far is only from a Lillian Too book,
so I'm very pleased to have found your forum. I am in the process of
applying the Compass School/Pa Kua/Eight Life Aspirations to each room of my
house. I would be very grateful if you could answer a couple of points that
are not clear to me.

Dear Val,
In my personal opinion, for a newbee, I recommend that you can apply the
Bagua (Eight House Theory or East Four / West Four Group) as this is one of
the most popular Compass School technique:
1. The purpose is to look at the suitability of the house to the individual
and
2. Sleep, work and study.. facing a good direction.
This technique takes into account your personal kua (individualized for a
person). The only thing is that some more advanced Feng Shui Practioners
would use the Flying Star Theory. The difference is that the Eight House
Theory does not take into account the date of birth of the house when
`evaluating' a house. But, this is a very practical theory, which has it's
own use as shown under Para 1. and 2. (above).
If I were you, try not to practice `too much' of the Eight Aspirations or
Life Aspirations or Associations as this does not even take into account a
person's kua number. Most Feng Shui writers, continue to write on Eight
Aspirations but this is too basic a theory to apply and if you notice, it is
applied to every one. Here, we have to question: Does it really make sense
to apply so generally to everyone?
So, you should pay attention to these Feng Shui Schools:-
1. Shapes and Form School (Theories, some commonsense and intuition)
2. Eight House (when you are new but remember, its purpose is to find a
`suitable' home)
3. Flying Star: Looks at the birth chart of the house.
The above are without question the three most popular `Schools' of Feng Shui
and to be effective, you should apply all three schools.

1. Poison Arrows: when it states that a protruding corner in a room, or
the corner of a large piece of furniture is a poison arrow, is it only when
it has a sharp edge
(i.e. a 90% angle)? Is it still a poison arrow if the edge is rounded
slightly?

It can be quite subjective. But in my personal opinion, if the furniture is
large, a `rounded slightly' edge is still considered a `threat'.
The `ideal' dining table is considered to be made of wood. This is because,
other materials e.g. glass and even plastic can be considered a metal
element and not as ideal for a dining table.

2. Crystals: I have read that crystals represent the earth element, and
also suggestions to hang them in a window, but, is it okay to use them in
any sector irregardless of the Productive/Destructive cycle of the five
elements? And if crystals are hung in a window, what do they achieve?

Here, you have to be `careful' with the word crystals = earth element. This
is because, Feng Shui is also about Symbolism.
Let me take an example. If your crystal is in the shape of a pyramid, some
FS practioners will now consider the crystal has taken a shape and consider
it a `Fire' element because of the pointed triangular shape.
In the Far East, most Feng Shui practioners quote a fee for consultation and
do not add extras. For example, a fee of $588 to do a FS audit (without any
hidden costs or extras). I understand, in other countries, some FS
practioners will charge a fee e.g. $488 but `hidden behind' this cost is an
arsenal of Feng Shui products that they sell. Here you have to be careful.
Some may simply ask you to hang a crystal or a metal windchime and then add
the costs to your Feng Shui audit fee. Most likely in the above case, you
will end up paying more and you may not be sure if the crystal is REALLY
needed or not.
In my opinion, where best, don't because a book says to place a crystal, we
must place it in every room. This is because if you have done a Flying Star
Analysis, (by the way, this is the most powerful Feng Shui method) as it is
based on numerology, it can be used to locate a mountain star or a water
star. If you have a mountain star at a location, you can then activate it.
I will not go further on the Flying Star as you can search for this
information on this website.
Do take note that most of Lillian Too's books are good because she can
`impart' knowlege easily with both graphics and are well summarized. But a
few Feng Shui practioners/teachers have voiced out that in their opinion,
some of the materials in her books may have been `invented' by her.
Nevertheless, if you are a newbee, feel free to continue to read good books
but always have an open mind and my advise is also to read as widely as
possible.
Warmest Regards,
Cecil
