Dear Penny,

Actually, the best way of assessing ba zi, is to use weak or strong element. Followed byfurther fine tuning using the Balance of the Five Element.

You see no matter how extreme a chart is, it will in generally follow the same principles that as a Strong water person is strong because it is likely to have lots of Metal and Water, while lacking in Earth, Wood and Fire for example.

While a weak water person has too much of the elements destroying or making it weak than elements helping to make it strong. So even how extreme a case this will ultimately be the results.

This is where the fine tuning method which we use at Geomancy.Net using the Balance of the Five element by breaking down the elements in to percentage method, so that you can know at a glance which element has too much and too little.

For example a Strong Water person can be extremely strong because it has too much more Metal (30%), than water 5%), or it can also be she has too much Water (30%), than Metal (5), or even that she has too much of both ie Water (30%) and Metal (30%). So this is where the balance of element helps you know exactly which element you need more or less.

This goes the same even for the unfavourable elements. Say Earth and Wood are unfavourable element. But if the overall Wood is 0%, while Earth is 50%, that means a little wood is still acceptable, while earth should be avoided completely.

The ultimate goal is to achiev 20% of all Five elements. This is virtually impossible to attain and or even calculate at any given time. So the percentage can only help you give you an ideal what elements you might need more or less. But ultimately, if you follow the general five element concept, elements that generally favour you will always help you regardless of which element has more or less. To get best results, you should use the Balance of the Five element.

Thus, in our website, the extreme cases does not really make much of an issue. This has always been handled by the Balance of the Five element, which attempts to help you try to bring all your elements to a nice balance. As such, there really isn't a need to worry too much about the extreme cases, they are handled similiarly at our website.

Hope that helps.

Warmest Regards
