Dear All, 1. You may ask the question: Say again? What you mean by " THE BUTTERFLY? " 2. In this example, I share with you an inauspicious layout plan known as " The Butterfly ". 3. For the Chinese, The Butterfly signifies ' short-life '. Here, it is important to know that a butterfly does not live long. 4. Thus, a butterfly shape is indeed an inauspicious Feng Shui building shape. As it's significance, short-life is really not good. What we care for is long life. 5. There is another reason for this. Many of the layout plans in a butterfly layout design does not fully utilise space. 6. Enclosed please find the attachment where one can clearly see what a butterfly shaped building looked like. 7. And you also get to see a sample layout. In the sample layout, you will notice that the toilets are inauspicious sectors. Please see attached illustrations. 8. In a future installment, I will append to this message another `butterfly layout' which is equally worse-off! In this particular layout, poison arrows are aimed at the living and dining room. And the toilet is also at the centre-point of the house. Warmest Regards, Cecil

Dear Lee, 1. Thank you for your effort in scanning and providing the relevant details. 2. It is thru, the proper details provided e.g. scanned image that makes it easy for me to provide the relevant advise. 3. As for the significance of either `protusions' or `missing corners' please refer to this URL:- http://www.geomancy.net/resources/theories/fs-building.htm 4. The ruleset here is that a `protusion' or `missing corner' is one where a sector has either a protrusion or missing corner equal to or exceeding 33.3 percent of the area of that particular sector. 5. Thus a sector is defined as: based on the layout plan, equally divide the floor plan into 9 equal sectors. 6. If any ONE of the sector has either 33.3 percent protusion or missing corner - this is considered a major protusion or missing corner. Thus will fall under the signficiance as mentioned under the above URL. Otherwise, consider it as a MINOR protrusion or missing corner and no major signficance. Warmest Regards, Cecil

Note: The full edited Case Study is found here:- http://sg.geomancy.net/about/location-mainpage/location-mainpage.htm Dear All, 1. This is a mini tour of Geomancy.Net's office location. 2. Why is the location chosen? Geomancy.net is located in a low-lying, basin location. In Singapore, this location called `Yio Chu Kang' is particularly auspicious. One Feng Shui Master even mentioned that it is Singapore's "Only Feng Shui cricket' land that is active and wields great supernatural power." Overall, this location is considered very auspicious. 3. This is the first paranomic picture from the inside of Geomancy.net looking outwards. 4. In the paranomic picture, you can have a glimse that Geomancy.net is located on a ground floor level. Where there is a side gate (by looking at the left side of the picture). 5. Overall, in line with the author's personal expectation; this office has a double 7 main entrance. Warmest Regards, Cecil
-
Dear Will, 1. The main consideration of a house is that it should not have a large `mouth'. 2. From what I can understand from your description that your house has two main entrance. It is best to (as you have mentioned) try to use one entrance. This is because, too many openings at the frontage is not advantages. For example, if a house has sliding doors at the frontage instead of e.g. a pair of doors, and if the ratio of main door is pretty large in relation to the frontage, it can lead to e.g. females in the house becoming lonely or those who aer unmarried in a house, remain single. You can make use of the Eight House Theory to see which door is more favourable to you. Warmest Regards, Cecil

Dear Yang Ming, 1. The most common cure for concrete beams is the use of a pair of bamboo flutes. You can view a picture illustration under the reference link below:- http://www.geomancy.net/mypictures/cgi-bin/mypictures.cgi?img=0&search=flute&cat=all&bool=phrase&x=7&y=12 (Simply click on the thumb-nail view for a larger view). 2. If one places a pair of flute on a beam, it can be placed on either side or one of the other side of the beam i.e. one pair of bamboo flute will do. This is onl for info: The only other option is the use of `false partition'. Warmest Regards, Cecil

Dear Yumeko, 1. Usually, it is advisable not to do anything prior to the `symbolic move'. 2. However, the customs differ greatly. And some may:- 2.1 Sprinkle rice and/or salt. 2.2 Some bring in a pair of mandarin oranges (where the oranges represent gold). Frankly, majority simply go in and open the door when one get's the key. As mentioned, if one wants to do a `ritual' or first time opening of the door, one can do nothing or any of the above or more. In my opinion besides rice and/or salt; there are too many variations e.g. placement of Red Packets (ang pow); purchase of `Huat Quay' Warmest Regards, Cecil

Dear Mary, You should normally use the unit door i.e. your main door and not the main security door. However, if you have a layout plan either in the following format:- 1. Scanned in one of the popular graphic format e.g. .gif .bmp .jpg etc.. 2. Fax it to: 065 - 6482-0570 (Remember to quote your e-mail address for a return reply via e-mail). We will be most happy to help you or anyone locate the centre-point to your main door. If you are sending it by fax, make sure that you quote your e-mail address as we normally scan and e-mail the information to you. Warmest Regards, Cecil

Dear Anon, Yes, the chime can go along way and is a reasonably good alternative as a cure. Warmest Regards, Cecil
-
Dear Ian, The best solution is to apply the concept: If one cannot see it, it no longer becomes a `threat' or `sha qi'. Since this is the bedroom window, you can use e.g. a blind (vertical or horizontal) or close the window using a day curtain. May I know what is the purpose of hanging a 8 rod metal wind chime. Without looking at the purpose, it is always better to place a metal wind chime outside the window. If the window has a ledge, place it on this ledge. It would be extremely inauspicious if the toilet bowl can be seen directly from the main door. Alternatively, try to close the toilet door when not in use. Warmest Regards, Cecil
-
Dear Lynn, 1. The garage below the bedroom is not a real issue. A similar question has been mentioned in a forum message - a few days earlier. 2. Since there is a restriction in the positioning of the bed, usually:- 2.1 Ideally, if the head-bed has a storage compartment. If so, this would in effect, place the bed-head further away from the wall. 2.2 If there is no storage area, try to see if you can position the bed at least 1 foot away (leaving a gap) from the wall. Warmest Regards, Cecil
-
Dear KS, Please see below:- Yes, overall, it is considered not auspicious to have the Master Bedroom door facing another toilet door. Where possible close that toilet door when not in use. It is not ideal to have the bed sharing the same wall as a bathroom - especially if the toilet bowl is directly opposite the bed. Ref: http://www.geomancy.net/resources/art/art-under.htm This also applies to apartments. One conclusion here is that it is said that tiny water vapour or molecules emitted, may encourage baterial growth etc... If you have a layout, feel free to sketch (of the room in relation to the toilet / toilet areas / toilet bowl position / shower area -- and upload it to the forum for comments. Warmest Regards, Cecil

Dear Yang Ming, 1. Reference: http://www.geomancy.net/resources/theories/fs-ruler.htm 2. In the above url, one can find a sample Feng Shui ruler. 3. In the above illustration, one can see the top line (just above the inches). This TOP line is meant for Yang Feng Shui. Or Feng Shui for the living. 4. The lower or BOTTOM line (below the inches) relates to Yin Feng Shui measurement or Feng Shui for the dead. 5. Therefore, you could look at the TOP row. 1 Feng Shui foot is equal to an imperial foot of approximately 17 inches. 6. In Hong Kong, one may find 3 or more versions of the Imperial Carpenter's Feng Shui ruler. Warmest Regards, Cecil

Dear Everyone, Before, I answer the question on mirrors, there is an important concept of mirror: " Mirror, mirror on the wall ". Please see illustration in the attached file. (Only available under web-login to the forum. Attachment not included for those participating or listening in from an e-mail mailing list). History: 1. The Cantonese dialect group is particularly fond of placing mirror(s) in the living room. The idea is that food on the dining table can be multiplied. 2. The above, is particularly favourable to Hong Kong Feng Shui practitioners. Especially since the majority of Hong Kongers are Cantonese themselves! 3. Interior Decoration and Mirrors (C) Cecil Lee Usually, if the wall is a large wall, one single piece of mirror may not be enough. What happens? In such a situation: 3.1 Get the largest piece for the centre. And have two smaller pieces of equal length mirrors on each side of this large piece. 3.2 As mentioned earlier: 1 full piece or 3 pieces is a good combination. Three also represent `Yang'. 3.3 Avoid, having two pieces of mirrors joined together. This is symbolic of a split. Enclosed please find the illustrations - for further clarification of the above. Enjoy your mirror(S)! Note: Please open file: mirror1.gif instead of mirror.gif as under mirror.gif - I did not edit the heading where it should say `One piece mirror' instead of `Three piece mirror' for this first illustration. Warmest Regards, Cecil

Dear Yang Ming, 1. For HDB apartments, it is relatively quite easy because majority of the apartments were built either under Period 6 or (today) Period 7. 2. If the apartment you are reviewing is built anytime between 1984 to 2003, then it does not matter if it was built in 2001 and completed in 2002 (this year). Therefore, most or all new HDB apartments should be considered as under Period 7. For older apartments built before Period 7 ie. 1983 or below, do check if there were any major renovations done between 1984 to-date. If so, the apartment would most likely be a Period 7 unit. Warmest Regards, Cecil

Dear Julie, 1. In my opinion, I would classify the case of a bedroom or master bedroom above a garage as " commonsense approach ". 2. Before, we start jumping or worrying too much, the main rationale why some consider this bad is because a vehicle below the bedroom may inadvertenly `catch' fire. But... wait.... how often does a stationery car catch fire? 3. This is similiar to the situation of a bedroom above a kitchen. Although there is a slim chance of a fire in a kitchen. But statistically, it is in my opinion, much less than a vehicle accident. It is similar to air-plane accidents. It has been statistically proven that travelling in aeroplanes are relatively safe. Much safer than on the road. 4. Therefore, I hope that you should be relieved of this. 5. In a future e-mail, I would like to highlight an interesting concept of hollow void decks (two to three floor high) much like a `garage' with apartments above it. In some instances, this can be considered as auspicious.... Warmest Regards, Cecil

Dear Hoa Luong, Please see below:- For a Period 7 house, the effect is aggreviated by bad stars for this year. Thus if this year has an extra Year #5, then a better cure is to use a 6 rod metal wind chime. And a 6 piece i-ching coin can also be hang at that particular sector. Usually, this would help to neutralise that sector. As for your mum, it is still OK. However, it is best that the room decor match her Ba Zi. And where possible, water element (blue/black or grey) or green should not be outstanding. Yes, if there is a #5 for this Year, it should help greatly. And after this Horse Year, the wind chime is not necessary. A person should not be counted as part of the room's `strong fire'. Since you mentioned that your mum (if I get it correctly) that she is sleeping in the East room. Water would not be a favourable component if this is her sleeping location. As water is unfavourable to a Strong Wood person. One off-set of using `fire' is lighting. If there is sufficient natural lighting in the room, this would be a parallel to good `fire' or yang component. And this can be used instead of colours e.g. pink or red. Warmest Regards, Cecil
-
Dear Hoa Luong, Overall, it is better to select 165 degrees with a range of 157.5 - 172.4 degrees. Warmest Regards, Cecil
-
Dear Anon, It is best not to distrub the Grand Duke at South. Leave the pots there. However, if you can, hang one (set) of six coins inside the home (above) that sector. Warmest Regards, Cecil
-
Further to what I mentioned earlier, it is acceptable for some components of a wind chime e.g. it's support "roof" and the clanger to be made of wood. The rationle is simple. Under the Destructive cycle - ref: http://www.geomancy.net/resources/theories/fs-5element.htm One will notice that metal -> destroys -> wood. Thus, even with relatively some wood pieces on the wind chime, the 6 rod e.g. hollow aluminium wind chime - with its constant clinging has no problems `destroying' wood element. In addition, wood with aluminum is a nice pleasing piece to look at. Warmest Regards, Cecil PS. *JOKE* Please note that I am not swaying anyone from using any type of wind chime. But based on "commonsense approach" and practicality :- Firstly, wooden cum aluminium wind chimes are easier to find or purchase. While, metal brass/copper type are much harder to obtain/purchase and maybe more expensive. Secondly, wooden cum aluminium type has lighter components.. and especially with the wooden clinger, is felt that it can cling more frequently in locations with light winds.

Dear Anon, 1. Thank you for bring up such an interesting *observation*! 2. I often, test out the various types of 6 hollow metallic rod windchimes. 2.1 From my personal observation, the rationale for not fully recommending a `solid' brass or copper -- wind chime is due to the weight of all its various components. 2.2 Perhaps, you can say that I "blame it on the weather". 2.3 This is because, more often, after testing out a solid brass/copper windchime which has a metal (e.g. i-ching type of coin) - it seems to me that the wind chime does not EVER make a sound. 2.4 Perhaps, as I mentioned earlier, it could be that down my area, the wind is relatively below average or mild wind. And it does not sound the windchime as frequently as a 6 rod alluminum wind chime with a wood clanger. 2.5 Another rationale is that the 6 rod alluminum wind chime a wood clanger is felt to be lighter in all components. 2.6 When a 6 rod alluminum wind chime was hung at the same location, this is about the same size of the earlier brass/copper wind chime, it started to make constant noise. In my opinion with relatively mild and on occassions even below average wind. 2.7 As most of us are aware, the purpose of using the 6-rod cure is to constantly use metal or metallic sound to hammer or supress e.g. star #5. 2.8 And it does no good if the wind chime then becomes only a decorative piece. What is the use of a beautiful wind chime -- that only when it rains or with strong winds can it then perform? 2.9 This is the rationale why, I felt compelled to highlight strongly the use of a `wooden' clanger. And this is why you `caught on' it. 3. In my personally opinion, I blamed the weather for not making the earlier brass/copper type of wind chime with a heavy clanger. Maybe, if your place or location is much windier, then it is absolutely good to use a heavy wind chime. Warmest Regards, Cecil

Dear Anom, 1. For a novice, this may be big worry or concern. As most of us will quite rightly worry about pots or planters with soil. 2. However, if we properly consider the Five Elements concept - Destructive cycle:- http://www.geomancy.net/resources/theories/fs-5element.htm 2.1 One will notice that in the destructive cycle, plants/trees (wood element) destroys or crushes earth element. 2.2 Here, we can imagine, the roots of the plants penetrating the soil. Thus this two auspicious cycle of wood -> destroying earth is good. 2.3 Many Feng Shui practitioners will also tell you that even artificial plants are acceptable used. This is OK. 2.4 In Flying Star Feng Shui, besides metal element -- the next most popular cures is the use of plants. 2.5 While water element if properly used is instead -- an enhancement. In particular, if it is near or at locations with Flying Star metal elements. *JOKE* It is not to say that we can easily use metal detectors -- hey presto.. metal found ... and water can be used. In fact all modern metals have re-infocred steel or metal support! And the literal meaning should be confined to Flying Star `metal' detection. Warmest Regards, Cecil

Dear Momo, You can check out the online report to generate What type of career? report at www.geomancy-online.com and a description within it. Here, there is a claffication of type of job i.e. Job with wealth and Job with power and authority. And generally, jobs that are considered suitable on a hold. Nowadays, there is a high component of multi-skilling in many of our jobs. And, we should be aware that many jobs involve the interaction computers, machines etc... One may have to breakdown the component of some of these jobs further to find out the main discipline. Warmest Regards, Cecil
