The terms Maharajah and Rajah denotes "royalty" in Malay. This is one of the most popular plants, planted in a landed property especially at the front fencing area - as it is very good at camouflage or provide a nice screen 'privacy' screen for a home. And because it's stem (trunk) is red in colour; red at the frontage of a Chinese home symbolises auspiciousness. Family name: Palmae Synonyms: C. lakkaOrigin of this plant: South East Asia. Many plant this palm at the corner of their landed property. Firstly, Chinese feel that red symbolises luck; and this palm is very easy to grow.
