Apartment with steps

I recently viewed an apartment. When entering the apartment, you step into a landing/hall about 2m square with a storage room to the side. You then have to decend 4 or 5 steps to get to the rest of the apartment. This is the first time I've seen an apartmentlike this that is split level (apart from duplex apartments) and not flat across. I just wondered if steps leading down is good or bad in terms of feng shui. Please advise.

There is one commonsense concept which Shapes and Forms Feng Shui considers critical: "Bright Hall" or "Ming Tang".

This simply means that if possible the area around the entrance (or facing direction) should have "clear unblocked space". This simply means that there is some lighting best would be natural lighting at the front area. Another purpose is to allow qi to collect within the area.

Even if there are steps leading down but based on the vague info, you did mentioned that there is something like 2 metre space = which I attribute to some form of a "bright hall". Which is acceptable. Not the best, but may be acceptable.

Contrast this to some old buildings where the 2nd and or 3rd storey is just one single straight staircase.

In addition, if the home does have windows that filter light in; much the better.
