myfs_133756
Hi,My work has moved me elsewhere in the building, towards the front of the office. The building generally faces N, and I'm in the NE.(I was moved from the sitting somewhere on the West side (not sure if it was exactly W) into a desk in the N sector.)The little 'room' (no door, just one step down to the rest of the office, which is much wider, but the East wall goes the length of the building) is too small for two people, but myself and the receptionist are now both in there, in the below configuration (at the bottom).Major problems are that I feel vulnerable there, I am facing a brick wall, and as I am Dui 7 it is bad that I am facing East. Can anyone give any suggestions of what to do? I can't move the desk, but I could probably put picturesto the North and East around my desk and over the photocopier on the West. And maybe something small to the South on the Shelves at the end of my desk.+---WW---+| P D || P Quote D | N| S D | W E| D S | S| D L S || DDD |=======| * |= = One step down to the rest of the OfficeW = WindowP = Printer/Fax/ScannerS = Shelves/CabinetsD = Desk* = Sink= Myself facing EastL = Receptionist facing South-WestThere are exposed pipes in the roof above me, and beams all along the roof a little further back. The toilet is next the receptionist's desk to the West, but stairs behind the photocopier. The West side of the office is where the doorway is, the mirror of the reception area, but there is no step, just flat ground. The rest of the office to the south is pretty much open plan with a wall and doorway about half way down its length - the whole building is very long and narrow.+-=--------+| | S |R || |T | R | N| s| W E|*** *| S|____ *||DDD| *|| *||DDD| *||* *||* ||--------=--|| | ||___ | ||S || DDDD|| D|* || D| T || KKK|| KKK |+-==------+= = DoorsR = Reception areaS = StairsD = Open plan desksK = Kitchen areas = Sink* = Shelves, tables, etcPS - The office was built in 1955, with a N2 Facing of 355 degrees.Thank you! myfs_133756
(Sorry, I can't find how to edit the message, as I realise it might be too specific. I am happy just to have a general answer about what to do about a desk facing a wall, when you can't change the desk layout at all. Thanks!)
Staff Cecil Lee Posted November 10, 2010 Staff Share Posted November 10, 2010 In my opinion, if a desk is facing a wall (and if there are no sha qi or poison arrow); Poison arrow such as a beam above one's head etc.. then strictly speaking (other than the best directions); it has more to do with psychology .. or restlessness then for personal reasons, perhaps, just place a mirror at a strategic location to cover the "blind" spot.. incase someone may come over to your desk. But now they have moved me again! At least I'm not facing a wall, and I'm facing a good direction for me. But still I have beams above my head. Nowhere in this room is free of beams overhead.Do you have any advice about deflecting the shar qi from the wood and metal beams? I can't reach them (too high) and I can't cover them with cloth, etc. Thank you again! Expand
Staff Cecil Lee Posted November 11, 2010 Staff Share Posted November 11, 2010 You already mentioned: 1. You are not in control of the situation. And 2.You said "Nowhere in this room is free of beams overhead." Full Stop.
