These are some considerations:-
1. In general, somehow for convenience; an industry is slotted into a specific element. Thus, in general; oil as you had mentioned is considered as belonging to the fire element. While in general, transportation is considered as belonging to the wood industry.
2. Frankly, there is no right or wrong answers; Look at where we are today! We are in the age of "multi-tasking" and "multi-skilling".
3. Therefore, there is really no end to the various (if what questions) like we transport oil so what should we be considered? What happens if one is transporting milk? What industry should that be in. Or we are transporting food from warehouse to our chain of macdonalds restaurant.
4. There are so many variations;
5. First and foremost; DIY. Go DIY route. Go master the Five Elements and go figure out what you think this or that belongs to. So long as you can have good justification; no one can fault you.
6. Furthermore, under Strategic Management considerations; on one hand there is the industry one is in; and also there can be someone with a specific task.
7. Thus, now for me to ask you a question: What if I am in a control room running a set of automated trains carrying oil... You go figure it out.. instead of .. asking me to figure it.
8. There are endless permutations and types of careers and job specifications.
9. As I had mentioned previously; take a job like the CEO's job. Many CEO's are in-charge of everything from HR (recruitment, promotion, firing); he may also be incharge of the Production department; he is also incharge of Marketing and Sales; he is in-charge of Legal, and accounting. He is also in-charge of growing the company.
10. The morale of the story, here is that in modern times; most persons would have to deal with more than one job function. No point figuring out what the industry is or may be or could be. Zoom in into the specific or main job duties of the person. And expect to justify your reasoning.
11. For example, maybe, in ancient times; a butcher is a butcher; a cook is a cook; but nowadays, with multi-skilling; everything is expanded.
12. I repeat; there is no right or wrong answer; and each person's job specifications may differ accordingly.
13. The worst case senario is to reverse engineer: Think which career is suppose to be auspicious and work around the career to fit it as becoming auspicious career to that person.... Anyway, all these are "small things" or peanuts. One is not going to achieve great things by constantly considering; is my current job right ....
