Staff Cecil Lee Posted September 25, 2017 Staff Share Posted September 25, 2017 1. In the past I prefer to use IBM ThinkPads. 1.1. Where in the early years of Geomancy.net, majority of the resources was produced using them. 2. The first laptops produced by IBM was either only: the 3 series and the 7 series. The 3 series is their base model. (Similar to BMW = 3 series. While their 7 series is more Atas! Like the BMW = 7 series. LOL) 2.1. This was IBM 386XD 11.3" TFT. Photo shows an IBM ThinkPad 700C. (C stands for colour0. Where the chassis is very much similar to the 386XD. 3. Missed the feel of it’s keyboard. And removable hard disk feature. 4. I also had purchased a docking stations for them. At that time, a mouse, other other cards were plugged in such as a PCMCIA module. 5. Would you believe I had four of these IBM 386XDs. And one of them was running the IBM OS/2. 6. After that bought many IBM Notebooks including their T, X series... 7. Once Lenovo bought over the ThinkPad, change of heart. 8. Switched to the next best ... the Japanese Sony VIAO ... purchased several models. 9. Two of then I am still using today... (Several years ago Sony stop production of their PCs). 10. Thanks to these PCs, are the origins of numerous resources and forum postings/replies...

Staff Cecil Lee Posted April 5, 2020 Author Staff Share Posted April 5, 2020 Remembering Toshiba... 1983: The world’s first industry standard laptop.. 1989: Ok... no need to be on one’s lap.. as it has shrank rd to the size of a notebook:- Today... known as Dynabook. As it is now owned by Sharp Corp. of Japan. In the past, I never looked at Toshiba as heard that their screen displays seems to have more dead pixels. And one can only get an exchange if there are .... a certain number of dead pixels. While so far, all IBM & Sony laptops I had purchased had zero dead pixels. Hmm I was lucky I guess or that their QC was excellent!

Staff Cecil Lee Posted October 6, 2020 Author Staff Share Posted October 6, 2020 Regretted buying Microsoft Surface P.C. Within one month display screen has defects. Painful learning experience after trying to call technical support x 30 or more times only later to discover that the phone voice says they have a problem with this system. Took a chance going to Frasers Tower. No technical support - just offices. Tried logging into Help Desk.. bring you into circles and circles. Finally, got into Service order... keyed in like 12 times.. and later... this service is closed until further notice. This is the first and last time.. MS. Tech support is NIL. Automatically added to their mailing list when I registered my Surface product recently. Can advertise for sale. But to-date, virtually no service support for their products. Never again! Staff Cecil Lee Posted November 13, 2020 Author Staff Share Posted November 13, 2020 Seldom need to upgrade or buy new PC. Note to self: check to make sure that there is a physical Service Centre. So far searched and found HP has one locally. Henderson Lenovo also has one.
