Should the rod of the wind chime be solid or hollow?

I have read from a Lillian Too 's book that a five solid rod wind chime can be used to counter 5 yellows for year 2000, but I also read from this website that a 5 solid rods wind chime should not be used. Can someone please explain the significant and use of solid wind chime as compare to hollow wind chime.
thks .

Dear Ang,
There are points of differences on hollow or solid rods:
1. Hollow wind chimes is considered by some practitioners to `carry' Qi while not as effective with a solid rod i.e. solid rods are not used for feng shui because of this ineffectiveness.
2. In terms of Five Elements, a solid wind chime is in one aspect considered to have more metal (solid rod) than a wind chime with hollow rods.
3. Based on the Five element concept, a soild rod, has more metal than a hollow rod. One analysis here is that it is not adviseable to use solid rods particularly at metal locations e.g. NW or West and at NE (devil's gate).
4. Para 3 applies more to locations at NW or West or at NE.
Therefore, I am glad that you asked this question. As the assessement does not take into account Flying Star audit to check on the imbalances of various sectors, the above is just generalised statements.
5. Alternatively, clocks with pendulum are better choice to enhance metal elements which provides a constant `tick-tock' sound.
6. The saying goes "a little knowledge is a dangerous thing." Everything we do should have a purpose. It also does not hurt not to place an object at a location. If one must, if one can do a Flying Star chart to see if there is any excessive metal element at a sector.
10. Another significance is that Five (5) represents the inauspicious star 5. I hope no one spend money and yet may get "burned" `playing' with windchime.
Warmest Regards,
Cecil

Hi Ang,
I am not sure if you got Lillian Too correctly.
Out of curosity, having read one of her earlier book, I dusted away the dust from it(nearly threw away this book).
In her book Basic Feng Shu, an illustrated reference manual, published in June 1997, under Page 177 of this book, she wrote the following:
"Para 1. Make sure the windchimes you use for feng shui reasons, have hollow rods.... When the rods are solid .... unsuitable for feng shui."
Now you mentioned that she said that to use a five solid rod wind chime???
Personally, I find that there are so many contraditions in her books that I threw them at a corner collecting dust. If this is true, I will certainly throw them away!

Dear Karen,
I am quite sure Lillian's new book for year 2000 mentioned about using 5 solid rods but the objective of 5 rods wind chimes is not for enhancing chi but to suppress the 5 yellows.

I was only browsing thru' her book on year 2000 so I can't give any detail of which page etc.
Anyway, my confusion on wind chime was the many different applications suggested by different Feng Shui experts/practitioners. My wife has wanted to use it but I am sceptical due to insufficient knowledge on the subject.

Dear Ang Chye,
Upon reviewing your message, I would like to inquire about your reasons for wanting to hang a Wind Chime. Is it solely due to the presence of star 5 in the year 2000? Or is it because the imbalance of Star 5 in that particular sector necessitates the use of a Wind Chime as a remedy? Personally, there are more effective cures available than using a Wind Chime, which can often come with complications such as varying element types of rods, different rod numbers, and hollow or solid rods. Additionally, incorrect placement of a Wind Chime may lead to more issues rather than resolving the existing problem. It is advisable to only apply a cure if you are certain of imbalances in the sector. While Star 5 is classified as a Sickness or Misfortune type of star, similar to Star 2, both being of Strong Earth, your focus seems to be on the star 5 of the year 2000. To determine whether this star is auspicious or inauspicious, it is essential to consider the 20-year base star, such as 6-3-8 (where Mountain & Water are related to the 20-year base star). When Star 5 enters, it becomes 6-3-8 plus 5 years. This does not necessarily mean that the 5 star will bring bad luck or create an inauspicious sector. In terms of Flying Star, there are triple combinations like Wood, Fire, Earth, which are considered harmonious and lead to the production of Metal and Water, promoting harmony. Therefore, if your intention to hang a Wind Chime is solely due to the presence of star 5 in that sector during that year, it is advisable not to do so. Moreover, there are more effective cures available than using a metal 5 solid rod Wind Chime, such as 6 coins with a red string, which do not pose the risk of attracting playful imps or come with complications. These cures have been proven to be highly effective for Stars 2 and 5. However, I must emphasize that I am not suggesting the use of 6 coins without knowing the specific imbalances you are experiencing that prompt you to consider this remedy.
Warmest Regards
Robert Lee
