What does different tones of flowers mean

In the article on the flowers in the photo tour of interest. It says that 6 different colors and tones of flowers are used. What does different tones of flowers mean. Thanks.

Extract of a paragraph of the message:

Here, if I understand correctly he mentions about colours of the rainbow to brighten the home i.e. within each six colours, the flowers can be of different shades of that colour.
What he wants achieved is to brighten the home.
