Missing elements in a name

Dear Cecil,
You have no idea how much your forum has helped me fill in the missing puzzle in my destiny.
After trying the enhancements that you've suggested and learning that the missing sections in this house has really effected my prosperity, health and happiness, I had a thought, one day, that if missing sections in a house would cause such imbalances, what would missing elements in a name create?
I had gone back to my Chinese name about twenty years ago and have not been able to attain success in my chosen profession, even though it was the same profession that the Pillars of Destiny said my prosperity star was in.
In one of the messages that you wrote, you mentioned that ideally, if a person is born as a weak element, like myself, weak water, a name with water in it would enhance her luck. Then I realize, my Chinese name Cheui, means jade, earth, which would weaken water further. Am I right in that analysis? If I am, can you tell me where I can find information on how to choose an auspicious name?

1. Thanks for sharing with us your personal information.
2. Yes, ideally your name should have `metal' or `water' element in it.
The simplest form of water is `Shui' or the Feng `Shui''s water character.
In fact, this is what my elder brother has in his `last' name.
As there are various pronounciation e.g. in dialect, e.g. `Chwee', `Chooi' etc... what is more important is the Mandarin `Shui' used.

For a `traditional' Chinese person especially the middle or higher income, would essentially make sure that the name matches the person's Ba Zhi or Pillars of Destiny.
I know of many people who have changed names and had done well. But of course, the best is still one that is given from birth.

Yes, Pillars of Destiny is the cornerstone and for example when each of us was born, my grand father would `run' to a geomancer and get our Pillars of Destiny done.
As I did not lack any element, my last name has a `Tiong' or center or balance.
One can also classify the number of strokes as odd or even and this comes under either Yin or Yang also.

Ideally, you should not have jade or earth in your name. It would do with `Shui' in it to increase your water element. Alternatively `metal' in one of your names.
I truly believe in the above.

Dear Cecil,
I'm really interested in changing my name to add more strength to my element, weak water.
But Chinese is such a language of subtleties that one can easily make a mistake in evaluation. On further thought, I realized that my name, Cheui, actually means green, the color green of imperial quality jade and not actually the word jade itself, so does it mean that it's OK and will not further weaken my element, weak water?
But my middle name, May has the character mountain in the middle of the word. Does that add more earth element even thought the entire character is a flower?
Which name do you recommend that I change with Shui and how do I count the number of strokes? Is there a source that I can go to find out this information?

on this subject matter.
My name (Tufani) means "tempest", or
"storm". I was born on a day of yin water,
but my element according to my kua
number is yin earth.
1. Is the energy of the name determined
based on its linguistic meaning?
2. The personal element that the name is
compared with. Is that "personal
element" based on the day that one is
born, or based on one's kua number?

For names, currently, what we know presently is that:
a. Chinese names or each character can be identified as either Yin or Yang by the strokes of the name.
b. Yes, for Chinese names, it is based on `dictionary' meaning.
c. A variant of Para a. is the phonetic sound of a name.
For example, Chinese rely heavily on `sound like'. Such as a pear sounds like `li' or separation. Thus considered not auspicious.
d. Sorry, for mentioning only about Chinese names above as it is the known way of finding a good name either by:
- looking at each word. For example, a name may be TAN AH TECK which may have i.e. TAN (YIN), AH (YAN) and TECK (YIN).
Thus this implies 2 Yins and 1 Yang in the name. Here, one can relate to one's Pillars of Destiny to see if this is `beneifical' or not or whether the name has too many Yins or Yangs.
e. For other names, not Chinese Names, this may be a "controvesy" as it is relatively new area.
f. I believe, some people have `capitalized' on this for `English' names by counting the number of characters and thus assuming that it is Yin or Yang.
This is new and need more `reseach'.

Finding a good name is another aspect of GEOMANCY and is a `related' field.
Thus based on "Geomancy of one's name", the methods used are:
Method 1:
1. Counting each stroke of a name and total it up. For example, the total comes to 43.
This is then looked at to see what significance `43' is.
Method 2:
2. Each character of a name has either Yin or Yang. Then count how many Yin's or how many Yang's there are.
Method 3:
3. In conjuction with Pillars of Destiny.
Here, if one lacks the water element, usually a Chinese name will have `water' added to it. For example: TAN AH SHUI
Here, the name has been added with `Shui' which means WATER.
