moon88
Dear cecil,I read somewhere that one should not display mask (some wooden, some painted, some carved etc. at home. Is it true. Thanks.
Staff Cecil Lee Posted April 23, 2000 Staff Share Posted April 23, 2000 Dear Anon,1. Usually, in Chinese buildings, you can find figurines, especially those above Chinese rocco style bungalows with faces or masks of fierce mystical animals. The purpose is to `scare' away evil.2. Usually, within the home, in order to bring good luck, often, swords or knifes and even pictures of hungry, stalking animals are avoided. As this is considered inauspicious for luck.3. Thus, there are many various types, shapes and form of masks, and it is subjective where, they imply, the above (Para 2). Some masks have smiley faces also.Warmest Regards,Cecil Quote On 4/21/00 1:22:00 PM, Anonymous wrote:Dear cecil,I read somewhere that oneshould not display mask (somewooden, some painted, somecarved etc. at home. Staff Cecil Lee Posted April 24, 2000 Staff Share Posted April 24, 2000 Further to my earlier message, attached please find some pictures on how Chinese rocco-type houses, place a `mask' (a fierce one) at the frontage. Here goes... Warmest Regards, Cecil Lee P.S. There is a new Topic - Caricatures: Laughter is good medicine. There are already 68 subjects and more than 80 messages. Staff Cecil Lee Posted April 9, 2020 Staff Share Posted April 9, 2020 Note: This resource was posted on 24 April 2000 or exactly 20 years ago! Then, I had used a PC based software to combine around 5 photos to make this photo:- Today, with smartphones one can do it seamlessly! P.S. The PC software was something like "Stitcher" or "Stitch Photos"... LOL
