myfs_34158
I read that bamboo is a problem in back and side yards (but good in the front yard) - that it leads to money problems and effort gone to waste. We live in housing provided to us so cannot make changes to the yard. If bamboo is a problem in those areas, how about burying metal coins to control? We also have a (very little used) street pointing at our front window (which faces west). I've hung an eight-pointed gold star (actually a Christmas tree ornament) in our entry right by the window. Is there anything I can do to deflect the sha qi at the angle it points at the window? Thank you for your help!
Staff Cecil Lee Posted March 12, 2001 Staff Share Posted March 12, 2001 Dear Anon,Yes, in my opinion and personal experience, bamboo; is certainly NOT NICE to have at the back and side yards.Equally, it is not a `neat' and `tidy' plant as it sprouts shoots and can easily harbour snakes...It would not be ideal to bury coins, but rather, if you want, string 6 coins with red string and tie it on a stalk of bamboo. For the pointed sha qi towards the window, the easiest cure is to hang curtains i.e. day curtains or even simply curtains would be acceptable.I am not too sure about using the Christmas tree star... but u could try thou. Alternatively plant or tree outside the window would be a good alternative.Alternatively, if there is a shelf that faces out of the window, you can use for example a dragon facing out of the window. An alternative is the more potent ... cannon. (Again facing out of the house).Warmest Regards,Cecil Quote On 3/11/01 1:01:00 AM, Anonymous wrote:I read that bamboo is aproblem in back and side yards(but good in the front yard) -that it leads to moneyproblems and effort gone towaste. Staff Cecil Lee Posted March 13, 2001 Staff Share Posted March 13, 2001 Dear Anon,Further to what I had mentioned earlier about the bamboo tree (plant); In my opinion, I find that it is a `dirty' plant. Do not get me wrong that I meant `dirty' as to it harbouring ghosts! *Joke*What I actually meant was that:1. Unlike a regular tree, which has only one tree trunk; bamboo plant grows "sideways" and in a short while, one bamboo plant or shoot would result in many bamboo shoots sprouting out or expanding `sideways' or taking up more ground space.2. Should the older bamboo shoots be `cut' or had `rotted'; it could be a haven for mosquitoes or their lava since, the broken shoots can easily contain stagnant water.3. Furthermore, if one try to remove the bamboo plants (in the future), it can be quite a messy affair and it is hard to pull out the roots unless, one really digs hard enough.Because of the above, (rather than FS); I personally do not have a `good opinion' of the tree in one's home even if it is at the frontage of the house.. erh... so much trouble....Warmest Regards,Cecil Quote On 3/11/01 1:01:00 AM, Anonymous wrote:I read that bamboo is aproblem in back and side yards(but good in the front yard) -that it leads to moneyproblems and effort gone towaste. Staff Cecil Lee Posted August 2, 2011 Staff Share Posted August 2, 2011 There are various varieties of bamboos. These bamboos were recently planted at the newly T.O.P. condo : Livia at Pasir Ris.Unlike trees that have a single tree trunk; bamboos grow and multiply in clusters. Some matured bamboo clusters are much thicker than the one shown in the photos. As bamboos contain pockets of "spaces" or "air"; just imagine, if the bamboos were not properly maintained, e.g. cut-off partially, it could easily contain or rather retain stagnant water. And thus as a result become breeding points for mosquitoes..In many situations, snakes.. may take refuge also in the undergrowth of bamboo stocks.. Again, the above explaination; is based purely on: Common sense! For example, some people felt that the Chinese invented compartments in ships.. such that in the event of one or more compartments in a ship being flooded; it may still not sink. And some say that most likely the Chinese took this concept from the way larger bamboo trees subdivide their compartments... Staff Cecil Lee Posted February 15, 2017 Staff Share Posted February 15, 2017 Clusters of bamboo and banboo stumps. Some of the stumps have cavities. And potential for mosquito breeding.
