Rebuilding of house

Dear Cecil,
We just bought our new house in August. It is some 25/30 years old (we can't find out exactly when it was built) and we are now in the process of doing a major overhaul of the property. i.e. new water, electrics, sewage, kitchen, bathroom, floor and some modifications as well. From the different FS books that I have read I understand the year of renovation to be very important and to be considered as year built if you don't know the year it was built. Also I understand that any building / renovations in the S sector this year can be bring bad luck... is there anyway of avoiding this ... should I take it very seriously. Hopefully in a month time the building will be finished... I even have Chinese workman doing the rebuilding... maybe this helps positively (joke!)
Also wanted to ask if a small exterior water fountain would be suitable at the right side of the house as you come onto our plot of land .. it would be on the E wall and a little bit higher is the main door facing S. Would it be auspicious. It is a beautiful location for water plants and a fountain but I am not sure. It is left side from the door towards the outside.
Thank you so much for your troubles.

Dear Lola,
The good news is that this year, the location of Grand Duke is at South-South West direction and not South direction.
If your house is going to be completed this year or early next year (before the next lunar new year); your home is considered a Period 7 home (born or renewed during this period).
I personally think that there should not be an issue with `offending' the grand duke for your home.
Often, the safest method is for some people is to:
1. Move out during the renovations.
2. If this is not practical or possible, try not to supervise the work done. (For example, don't stand there to watch the ongoing renovation work.)

Given a landed property, in most cases, water feature is often if done properly pleasing to the eye.
In general, based on your description, and on Shapes and Forms Feng Shui, the water position looks ok.
The only TWO caution are:
1. Do use a compass. Stand at the centre-point of the home. Hopefully, the water position is not located at West compass direction (270 degrees). Here, in many instances, we do not want to inadvertently open the `tiger's' mouth (hungry white tiger's mouth).
2. For a water position outside on the right side is still ok. But avoid having it inside the home. Here, the belief is that a spouse might have "wandering eyes - and may go into a extra-marital relationship."
Hmmm.. your house sounds lovely!
Warmest Regards,
Cecil
