Staff Cecil Lee Posted November 18, 2010 Staff Share Posted November 18, 2010 Dear Anon & Emily, 1. Certainly, this is one of the most contentious areas within the practice of Feng Shui. 2. Nevertheless, to reduce this issue, I prefer to delve into various important aspects, so that by the conclusion, everyone can gain a clearer understanding. 3.It is imperative for us to grasp ideas such as: 3.1 Facing and Sitting directions 3.2 The "Mouth-of-the-house". 4. These two are related. 5. In many cases, the main entrance of a landed property is considered to be the "mouth of the house" due to its location facing the frontage. This is a common occurrence as we typically approach the front of the home by driving up to it and entering through this door. 6. Nevertheless, certain landed properties feature their primary entrance located on the side of the house. As an illustration, we proceed further into the property upon arrival. Subsequently, the main door is situated on the side. In cases where a row of landed properties align with our property on the same side, or if the main door directly faces another property in close proximity, it is advisable not to utilize this entrance as the main door. Instead, it is recommended to identify the frontage of the residence. This scenario may resonate with certain apartments that we have either visited or resided in. 7. The entrance of the house is crucial in Feng Shui, as it is believed to be the point where positive energy enters the home and influences its overall atmosphere (Qi energy) 8. In a piece of land, the main entrance is commonly referred to as the "mouth of the house". However, it is the combination of this main entrance and the front features, such as windows, that determine the facing direction. 9. Hence, it becomes clear that the facing direction refers to the direction from which air (Qi energy), or the majority of air (Qi), enters the home. It can be likened to the experience of driving a convertible car, where the air (Qi) flows directly towards our face. It is this predominant flow of qi or air that we seek to identify, and this is where the concept of facing or the mouth of the house comes into play. 10. Once the facing direction is determined, identifying the sitting direction becomes straightforward as it is directly across from the facing direction. Continued under Part II... However, if for Condo/HDB flats, the facing of the house could be different from the main door most of the time. In such circumstances, the main facing of the house is used rather than the main door. Mr Lee, could you please verify the correctness of my understanding, whether what I've written above is correct? I've been sourcing for a condominium and is also quite confused on whether the main door or thefront (windows of living and master bedroom) is used to match against the good direction from the Eight House Report generated from this website. For example, the Eight House chart shows that South is a good facing for me, so should I be looking out for a unit that sits on North and faces south (such that majority of the living room windows ( looks out towards north)
