Dear Sophia, 1. 6 (SIX) represents "big metal" and this is why, it is commonly used as a "cure" to neutralise e.g. #2 (sickness) or #3 or #4 (bad wood - career, lawsuits, scandals, education, romance type of issues) 2. Since we are now under the influence of Period 8, there is now a surge of anything to do with the number 8. Previously, the phonetic sound of "8" is particulary very auspicious especially for the Cantonese dialect group. 3. But now, many would like to hear that 8 is a good or SUPPOSE to be a very auspicious number under Period 8. 4. However, if we stick purely to the academic line of the Flying Star School of Feng Shui:- 6 = metal element 8 = earth element 4.1 Under the Flying Star Feng Shui, it is good that 6 represents metal as well as 6 also represents big metal. And since coins are used, it is simply = big metal. 4.2 Under the productive sequence of Flying Star Feng Shui, 8 = earth element. And perhaps a string of 8 coins would mean 8 earth produces or increase metal or gold. 4.3 For example, under the productive sequence of the Five Elements concept, earth produces metal. 4.4 Thus SYMBOLICALLY, it is acceptable to have a string of 8 coins given the above meaning. 4.5 In Feng Shui also, there are calls by some FS practitioner for certain use of:- a 7 coin "cure" this is symbolic of or equal to = weak metal cure. 5. Alternatively, we often hear a string of 3 coins. Here, three or number 3 represents wood. And since the coins are made of metal e..g copper or bronze, metal destroys wood to create wealth. If one wants to understand further, please find out each of the numbers and their association e.g. 1 = water element ; 2 = earth element etc.. Dear Amy, No, removing the trees (external) does not change the Flying star qi. However, this year, the Grand Duke of Jupiter is at compass degree SSW. Dear Ms C, In the real world, we have two partners that own or share a home e.g. husband and wife. Thus in the example provided: 1. partner is a weak water person 2. the other partner is a strong metal person Under the Five elements concept:- a. A weak water person's best elements are:metal and WATER b. a Strong metal person's best elements are: WATER, Wood and Fire The common denominator for both persons (see above) Is? ... WATER element. Thus for example in the masterbedroom, the pair or partner can apply e.g. a water (blue, black or grey) or have the room painted in blue. Here, water element helps reduce the strong metal person's element. At the same time, for the weak water person, water element helps him/her. Hope the above helps to give an example of what is known as the BINDING element of two persons. For practical reasons, if the home is stayed in by three persons e.g. 1. husband 2. wife 3. son We can apply the BINDING element of both husband and wife to the living room/dining and their bedroom. For the son, if there is only one son staying in a room, we can harmonize his ba zi best elements to his personal bedroom. For example, if the son is a WEAK METAL person i.e. since he is a weak metal person (as distinct from a STRONG METAL) person, his best elements or colours are METAL and EARTH. In his personal bedroom, then, we can apply both Metal (white or gold) or Earth (yellow, cream or beige) -- in general to his bedroom. (Not to complicate things, we have not analaysed the bedroom in relation to the Flying Star Feng Shui. What happens if the couple above has two sons both staying in this same bedroom. For example, by coincidence, SON 1 is a weak water and SON 2 is a strong metal person, here, from the above earlier example, their best BINDING element for their combined bedroom is = water or blue, black or grey colours. Dear Edwin, Please see below:- However, Flying Star is but only one of the theories. Another key element would be the Shapes and Forms Feng Shui. For example, most likey, your home has favourable or relatively good Shapes and Forms. And Shapes and Forms together with Flying star Feng shui combined together seems to (perhaps) help aid your home Feng Shui. Contrast this (perhaps again) with some other homes that may have good Flying star Feng Shui but bad Shapes and forms. Thus, the situation may not be the same, overall. Sometimes, we go to some Feng Shui sites and they give very flowerly names to number e.g. Purple = #9 or Yellow = #5. Anyway, again, all these goes to the most fundamental concept of the five elements:- where 5 = big earth element where 9 = fire element where 1 = water element Under the productive cycle of the 5 elements concept, for example, visit this url:- http://www.geomancy.net/resources/theories/fs-5element.htm Why is 5,5,9 or any of these combinations bad? This is because, 9 = fire element. And under the productive cycle, fire (9) further fuels bad 5 x 2. Where 5 = bad earth element! A 1 - 9 - 5, is therefore not as bad as a 5,5,9 because there is a 1 = water element. And as we all know, water can help to drown fire (9). Making the situation of double 5's lesser. If you have the time, write down the significance of each numbers e.g. 1 = water element 2 = bad earth 3 = bad wood element, 4 = bad wood element, etc... If one applies the Five elements concept properly, one will suddenly realise that e.g. proper application of Flying star Feng shui is not that mysterious after all or that it is based on one's whims and fanices. but a relatively simple "Five elements deduction". In your case, since #5 = bad yellow earth while #9 is = fire element, on the safe side, avoid anything BRIGHT YELLOW or BRIGHT RED in the bedroom, would be enough, in your situation. Since Bright Yellow is associated with #5 x 2 while RED represents #9. And my explanation of fire fueling (Yellow) earth should be best avoided. Best colours for the bedroom are neutral white representing gold or metal element. Or try to use pastel shades of colours not bright colours. For those whose Ba Zi can use green or wood element can use such a colour in the room. Since wood is like a tree with roots, that go into the ground (#5 or earth) and crushing the roots. Therefore, do make a chart of what are the characteristics of each of the Five elements e.g. a table format i.e. Element ColorShape Wood Green or brown tall and thin and more of the above information. If you do so, I strongly believe, that you are on the correct path of really understanding the five element concept. And furthermore, ba zi or proper ba zi also uses this concept. Dear Anon, Non-Feng Shui chatter... 1. To be truly honest, in this day and age, the first major consideration is on whether, have you installed an alarm system or if it is, is the system adequate. 2. This is because, as much as we like to use Feng Shui cures, things like #5 x 2 (misfortune sickness) can sometimes be twarted in a home by e.g. the installation of a hepa air cleaner etc.. 3. On the Flying Star Feng Shui 3.1 If the above are adequate, than, yes, it is best to neutralise the frontage with water position and a wind chime. 3.2 This is because, firstly the alternative of flying to Period 8, NW3 does not seem very good also given that P8, NW3 is not a very good overall chart to "fly to".

Dear Anon, Usually there are two ways of looking at the colour scheme of a bedroom or room:- A simplistic view:- This is by way of checking the family member's ba zi element and strength. For example, if the child or person occupying the bedroom is a weak water person, then the best colour for the bedroom is based on two colours:- 1. Metal (white or gold) 2. Water (blue, black or grey) In the above example, the room can be painted in neutral white. And curtains or bedsheets in blue or say grey, in colour. In a higher dimension of Feng Shui, the Flying star Feng shui is also combined to look at the bedroom. For example, say the person who is staying in the bedroom is a weak metal person. And his /her best elements or colours are:- 1. Earth (Yellow, cream or beige) 2. Metal (White or gold) But because the room is plagued by say bad yellow stars such as #5 or #2, although yellow, cream or beige fits this person, but because the bedroom cannot take earth colours because of bad yellow #5, then it is best to consider avoiding Earth tone colours for his/her room but to go for metal (white or gold) instead. Usually, this is the common standard practise amongst the majority of FS practitioners in the way of selecting colours for a new home. Say, if we have stayed in the home for a few years, and because of the above, e.g. the bedroom was painted yellow or cream and the person living there frequently falls sick, either it is best to change the colours or introduce "metal cures" to such a home. For a new home or a new home that is going to go for renovations, we can forgo cures but use colour schemes that avoid the Flying Star imbalances. No matter how, it is best to use the Flying star and or vs the ba zi since both uses the common denominator:- the Five elements concept. Frankly, if it all sounds complicated or greek, then, do get a FS practitioner to provide you futher advise on the painting of the rooms. However, if one does not want to consult a fs practitioner, than, try to paint neutral colours such as white or very light pastel shades of other colours. This is the best compromise. Dear Pam, Frankly, I would have to say, it depends! For a N3, P7 home, do check where are the activity rooms e.g. living or family rooms. If they are located at the back of this home, then, it is ok to keep to P7. However, the current P7 home has inauspicious #2 and #3 with #7 at the centrepoint of the home, thus is reflective of loss of wealth and sickness within the home. One may have to either consider changing to P8 or look at changing the main door direction to a N1 home (depending on the situation). Like I mentioned, more investigations should be made, first. Dear Mdm Tan, Glad that you find this website useful a. From a Feng Shui point of view:- 1. Generally, it is a site worth considering as: 1.1. all the blocks can be of very high floor(s) 1.2. higher floors have generally good unobstructed views 2. For such a development, often, the aim is to get higher floors vs lower (1 to 5 storeys) 3. Try to use the Eight House to check to see if the home especially fits the breadwinner. 4. Another major Feng Shui consideration has also to do with where is the afternoon sun? Generally, it would be good if the masterbedroom, bedrooms and even the living rooms are not "bathed" by the afternoon sun. 5. Even if the rooms are not facing the afternoon sun; do check that the walls e.g. say the masterbedroom walls do not soak in the afternoon sun. This is because, it is a well know fact that concrete walls do "soak" up heat. And even in the evening, it can radiate heat as late as 7 or 8pm. From an economics point of view, or resale point of view, because of it's close proximty or next to the MRT station, it is "guaranteed" or there is some insurance with regards to resale in the future. With the expected glut in the condos -- in the next 10 to 20 years. This is where, most "salaried" workers would have to retire and may most likely have to sell their units - to maintain a certain standard of living or to 'cash-out' for their savings. Personally, because of it's close proximity to town, it is in my opinion, worth taking a look. Under Flying Star Feng Shui, if you do know how to chart one, it is good to see if the unit has any good qi for Period 8, also. Well, good luck in your house hunting! Warmest Regards, Cecil

Dear Emily, If your wealth element is Wood, then you must either be a Strong or Weak Metal person. For a weak metal or strong metal person, his/her wealth element has to do with Wood. However, for a weak metal person, one cannot automatically gain wealth from "wood". This is because the weak metal person is too weak at the moment to draw wealth directly from wood. For a weak metal person, it is best to increase one's weak metal with (1st priority = earth element) and secondary adding more metal to metal. What happens if one is a strong Metal person:- Yes, in this case, finding a wood especially a STRONG wood person is good. Since wood is the wealth element of the strong metal person. If the person is a weak wood person, than it would not be advantages for the weak wood person since after you have "squeezed" out all the wealth from the weak wood person, he has nothing left for himself. Thus, it is important that a STRONG wood person is preferred. If you are a business women or a high flier or holding a high position (power and authority); then one should be looking for a STRONG fire person to support you. This is because for a Metal person (weak or strong), his/her wealth element is Wood. While FIRE element is considered as the person's POWER and AUTHORITY. Hope that helps. Cecil Lee

Five Elements concept and external facade of the building (or hotel) Under Feng Shui, often a competitor or even a person who wants to build a new home/office complex or any other business could employ a FS practitioner. More often, the FS practitioner will first scan the immediate environment to see what type of building could best be built on the site or plot of land. For example, if the neighbourhood is predominatly or has flat structures or rectangular shaped structures. This represents the earth element. Under the Five elements concept, the FS practitioner could either:- 1. Propose a tall and "thin" structure that is symbolic of a tree or (wood element). Here, under the destructive cycle of theFive Elements, wood or a tree's roots would be able to crush into the soil or (earth) to get nourishment. Thus, wealth is "taken" from the neighborhood. 2. On the other hand, the practitioner could recommend a metal shaped building e.g. a circular one. Here, under the five elements concept, earth harmonises with metal. Or in other words, under the productive cycle, metal draws nourishment from the "earth". 3. If the building has been built, colour scheme for the external of the building could be checked. 4. Dear Jeanette, A key success factor is to apply Flying Star Feng Shui. This is because under Flying star Feng Shui, if one can rightly activate the correct locations, this would be beneficial. On the contrary, activating the wrong sectors may bring worse consequence. For example, under Flying Star, if the water star #8 happens to be in a specific location at the living room, this would be very favourable for wealth. However, under Period 8, there are three distinctive numbers and their significance under Flying Star:- #8 = current prosperity. Here, there are two stars : the mountain MS#8 represents relationship/lottery luck; while WS#8 represents water wealth position representing prosperity #9 = future properity. And this is represented by the fire element. Here, be warned that if say the living room has this #9 (fire wealth element) and one inadvertently place water, here, then one can drown one's "future prosperity". #1 = future, future prosperity. This number can be activated with water (since this is a water star) to add wealth to the home. As you can see, Flying star is "exacting" and if used properly can be very good or potent. However, what you are mentioning has more to do with "guessing-game-feng-shui". Or to the Malays, they will call it "HAN-TUMP" or anyhow "whack" senario. For a water position, one also has to be extra careful, i.e. if one enters the living room, the water position should preferably not be on the right side of the main door. Else, this is the "flower of romance" or illicit affairs.... The fountain you mentioned, has a ball that represents metal, and it is an acceptable shape. Warmest Regards, Cecil

Dear Jeanette, Yes, it is preferred that a water feature does not face the main entrance. This is because, this is symbolic of wealth flowing out of the home. If you intend to install a granite wall feature, try to avoid a highly polished granite or marble wall. Since if it is reflective, it is like a mirror. Where under Feng Shui, a mirror facing a main door is not favourable since, it is considered as even before 'wealth" or qi comes into the home, it is deflected out of the home. (Under commonsense approach to Feng Shui, a highly polished granite wall -- is not favourable. Since, once we enter the home, we may --inadvertenly (while in deep thoughts) see an "image" like a stranger in the home. Where possible, the wall should have matt or dull granite (would be better). Dear Barb, Generally, even if the road has little or low traffic, by the fact that it is exposed to a road view, would place it as a home (as you had described) at a "T"junction. Under the water classics of Feng Shui, it is good to have water coming into the home. But do check whether at the exit point, can water canal be seen at the back of the house or at the side of the home. (If so, this is considered inauspicious). I reproduce, an old article in this forum indicating the method for counting the number of steps-in-a home:- Introduction: 1. In Feng Shui, there are two traditional methods of determining the number of steps. 2. The first method is a 3 number combination. Where the first two steps are Auspicious but the last step is inauspicious. METHOD 1 - THE THREE-STEP CYCLE ======== 3. Thus under the `Three-steps formula' step No. 1 (Auspicious), Step No. 2 (Inauspicious) while Step No. 3 is considered inauspicious. Usually this 3rd step is known as the `death' step. 3.1 Thus:- Following this method, one should be able to work out the number of steps:- 3.2 Auspicious steps are:- 1, 2, 4, 5, 7, 8, 10, 11, 13, 14, 16, 17, 19, 20, 3.3 Inauspicious steps:- No. 3 is the third step No. 6 is the following third step No. 9 is again the following third step No. 12 is again the following third step...etc... METHOD 2 - THE FOUR-STEP CYCLE =============================== 4. However, Method 1 should be used in combination with Method 2 below:- 4.1 What is the four-step cycle:- Step 1: Auspicious Step 2: Auspicious Step 3: Inauspicious Step 4: Inauspicious 4.2 How to calculate under this method: Step 1 is Auspicious Step 2 is Auspicious Step 3 is inauspicious Step 4 is also inauspicious 4.3 Next 4 steps:- ================= Step 5 is auspicious Step 6 is auspicious Step 7 is inauspicous Step 8 is inauspicious 4.4 Next 4 steps:- ================= Step 9 is auspicious Step 10 is auspicious Step 11 is inauspicous Step 12 is inauspicious 4.5 Next 4 steps:- ================= Step 13 is auspicious Step 14 is auspicious Step 16 is inauspicous Step 17 is inauspicious etc... 4.6 One can do similar calculations for 17 or more steps..... 5. After finding out the numbers for both Methods (1 and 2) we now derive the following sets of steps:- 5.1 Under Method 1: The Three-Step Method:- 1, 2, 4, 5, 7, 8, 10, 11, 13, 14, 16, 17, 19, 20, 22, 23, 25, 26 5.2 Under Method 2: The Four-Step Method:- 1, 2, 5, 6, 9, 10, 13, 14, 17, 18, 21, 22, 25, 26 Thus we have to eliminate the following numbers which are considered inauspicious in either one of the above methods:- Number 4 - inauspicious under method 2 Number 6 - inauspicious under method 2 Number 8 - inauspicious under method 2 Number 11 - inauspicious under method 2 Number 16 - inauspicious under method 2 Number 18 - inauspicious under method 1 Number 19 - inauspicous under method 2 Number 20 - inauspicous under method 2 5.3 Thus the final result are the following numbers:- 1,2, 5, 10, 13, 14, 17, 22, 25, 26 etc... 6. Dear Sophia, Frankly, the Eight House theory has it's limitations. This is because often once we have already bought the home (a fully completed home), we are not able change the interior of the home such as the toilets or major wall structures. It is best therefore that for a completed home, it is good to try to apply the Flying Star Theory to check for any imbalances and correct them. As to flying to Period 8 and the many ways of doing so without a major renovation, please do a SEARCH in this forum for this topic since it has been extensively covered especially in the beginning of this year if one does not want to do a major renovation. Dear JE, Under Period 8, in my opinion, especially for the central palace, one need not need to "lock" or neutralise the #5 at the central palace given that there is a Base #8, here. For the following general reasons: 1. It would look very odd to have a windchime at the centrepoint of the home. 2. Furthermore, in most homes, the windchime at the centrepoint is "stagnant" does not chime at all. 3. If it (windchime) does chime, it can make a pretty "disturbing" noise throughout the other rooms in the home. 4. Since #8 is an earth element and is the "wealth " element of period 8, a windchime may seem to kill #5 but it can also kill #8 totally -- the wealth # for Period 8.I 5. Given that #8 is good in period 8 and it is facing a similar #5 (both earth stars); pitting both #8 with #5 is in my opinion, generally a "square-off" thus the central palace becomes neither good nor bad even if #2 and #5 are around vs the entire "force" of #8 for Period 8. So far, many homes have "survived" without a windchime at the central palace.... Warmest Regards, Cecil

Dear Zey, Let us not be confused with different theories. Your queries has to do with wealth leak relating to Shapes and Forms Feng Shui. Perhaps, it is best to attach a sketch of the current layout. This is because it isbest (most favourable) to have a divider in an "L" shaped living cum dinning room. For the rest of the partition or divider, it is bestthat it does not seem to"cut" or slice intoareas like the living or dining room area. If because of (image- here) if we do install a divider:the question is does it or willit cut-off sufficient lighting e.g. at the main entrance or just behind the divider? Especially so in a North-South direction house? If yes, then partial - non-air-tight or partial with glass would be a good choice for thedivider/screen/partition. Warmest Regards, Cecil
