Dear Jun, The two most important considerations are: 1. Try to the entire room rectangular /square and not odd shaped. This includes the existing and new area. 2. Avoid creating missing corners or sectors for the extension. It is best to have a top down view of the property to ensure that the house is not odd shaped. 3. If the house has a profile of a head i.e. head jutting out of the home, avoid making the `head' of the house heavy! I believe in proper application of Feng Shui, usually the colour co-ordination and colour / material of furniture should take into consideration the personal element of the person and his/her partner. 2. This is where, a person's element is determined i.e. weak or strong element. In addition to this, if one has a spouse, the binding element of the two are usually taken into consideration especially in the bedroom and areas such as the living and dining room. 3. The Flying Star analysis is also taken into consideration under Para 2 and the particular sector i.e. South West. 4. If para 1, 2 and 3 is not taken into consideration, then you may have best to go by your personal feelings or combined feelings of family members. 5. For painting of walls, in general, neutral colour such as white (metal element) is the most acceptable. Alternatively, pastel shades would be acceptable. 6. You need to be at the centrepoint of the house and from there, find the direction of the main entrance door. There may be deviations in compass reading especially from a compass with smaller mass (e.g. if one is close to 1 metre from the wall especially if it has steel or metal in it). 4. The above matches your description of the East House person. 4. In my opinion, it is not true that a "WEST" person have to stay in an EAST house. Perhaps, you have to properly clarify what you mean by an " WEST " person. Do you mean that a WEST person = or not equal to the term " East House ". 5. Whenever we try to understand a concept either from a specific book or many books, the terminology may not be the same or similar. 6. It is advisable to read and understand the concept of what the author is trying to say. Rather than to `mix' and match similar terms from various authors. 7. This is where we have to try to score marks in all `questions' or areas. For example: if the examination questions is divided into three sections: 1. Dear Honz, 1. Frankly in my opinion, it is very difficult to apply `corner' theory such as the feel that a sector or corner is the `Helpful People' or `Fame/Partnership' sector etc.. 2. If we fully analysise `corner/sector' " Feng Shui ", it looks like all areas need to be enhanced. 3. One has to becareful of such a theory because, we end up trying to `decorate' seems like all areas of the home. 4. There is really not much one can do, if a toilet is not in a good position other than to comfort ourselves by either closing the toilet door, making it more bright / dry and some go to the extend of covering the toilet bowl each time when it is not in use. 5. For a small studio apartment, usually, it is much harder to apply "interior" Feng Shui concepts even if we use such things as `corner' FS. When we have a small apartment, every corner we `meet' ends up as `problem' areas. 6. For a small apartment, I feel that what is more important is: 6.1 to neutralise any threats if any towards the frontage or windows of the home. 6.2 generally, such apartments should be cosy and not overly cluttered. 6.3 to best harmonise the house, one can look at one's element and strength and then relook at the home. For example, the ba zi of the person can be further understood and related to the house i.e. a weak wood person, would perhaps, try to use the five elements concept and apply elements such as water and wood. Dear Wasis, We live in a practical world and many of us should not be deprived of books (some of us loved so much). For `bookworms' or those who simply love books, would be surrounded by them. Therefore, the only practical advise is to keep them neatly.. it would be good to have them kept inside bookshelves. If one has open bookshelves, so much the better. Although it is said that books are like knives, I could try to avoid placing it facing the bed. If one's bedroom has sufficient room for the bed and a separate area for say the study area or small corner bookself, facing away from the bed, the better. Dear Brenda, Yes, a small decorative screen next to the toilet so long as it is sufficent to block the view of the toilet and not the whole bathroom would suffice i.e. OK. For a mirror facing the front door normally this would not be advisable as it would reflect Qi or disperse Qi and may not be that advisable. It also depends on other factors i.e. distance to the door etc... If a mirror has to be used, a sloping mirror (similiar to those found at some shop shops for customers to view a pair of shoes) i.e. sloping would be an alternative where it is not perpenticular to the door. Dear Latha, One may have to determine how long one has been married. In my opinion, although there are references to pregancy under the Flying Star chart where the combinations of the mountain and water star interact to give an interpretation. However, with advancement in the science of fertility, it is best to seek the advice of doctors in this specialised field praticularly if one has been married for more that 3 years and have difficulty in conceiving. Thus in my opinion, it is more worthwhile to spent money seeking fertility advise than to rely on FS. Or follow some of the methods used such as taking the temperature to check for ovaiation etc... For example in the north? 3. This kind of theory cannot hold for everyone and it does not make sense to `pay homage' to this sector. 4. Overall, many a questions were asked as to how can I improve my `career' or `wealth'? Can Feng Shui provide the answer to this? 5. We have to understand that Feng Shui is about bringing in harmony to the house and MAY not be directly related to career or wealth. 6. What does all this mean? If one wants to use Feng Shui one has to remember that with proper use, it helps to bring about a healthy mind and body. With this pre-requiste can we than help ourselves to achieve success or to better ourselves. 7. Thus, Feng Shui is not a `cure all' or should not `automatically' mean that we can get great fortune or wealth just by waiting.. 8. Dear Raju, For a person who is a `weak earth', a water position such as a fish tank is neutral to your element. Here are some guidelines to the placement of a fish tank: 1. One method is to use the Flying Star to analyse each sector of the house for imbalances. 2. If one does not want to use method 2, then, the most common method is: 2.1 Shapes and Forms The fish tank can be placed in the living room or a private room. Avoid placing it in a study room as it may be distract the person studying in the room. 2.2 One School of Feng Shui feels that the stand of the fish stand should match the location e.g. a black stand at the North; a Green or Brown stand at the East etc... I feel that this is optional. 2.3 Avoid using a triangular fish tank. A triangle fish tank is not compatible. 2.4 `By feel' or trial and error. In macro Feng Shui, the best method to determine how good the site is; is to look at the overall city or county where your home is located. 3. We have to remember here that macro Feng Shui is important. The general well being of family households lies with the location i.e. city / county that one's home is located. 4. Next, the external environment of your home. As you had mentioned, your house is shielded by a large hill. 5. In general, the prosperity of not only your house but your neighbours in your location is equally important. As for the military base, it has to be looked at in relation to your whole county. 6. I do have the same predicament, each time, I want to move or change house. I would aways try to visualise where I can place many of my favourite display figurines such as the buddha statue etc.... 7. I feel that the easiest to find a suitable place for them is to `treat' these figurines or statues as part of your home decorative items. 8. Since you are proud and happy with them, place them as displays where you find comfortable with. Usually, this can be in the living room area or if you have a special room or family room, you can display them with their back behind a wall etc... Dear Yijun, 1. You have not mentioned whether you are a person with `Strong' or `Weak' water. 2. If you are a person with Strong Water element, then earth can help. For example, under the Five elements concept, Earth destroys Water. So if you are a person with Strong Water, earth can be used to exhaust your Strong Water. And this would be beneficial to you. 3. If you are instead, a person with Weak Water, you should not add too much Earth. As Earth can futher weaken your Weak water element. 4. If one is trying to add earth element, one should be more `careful' since it is not advisable to introduce Earth element to sectors in the home especially if one had not done a FS audit to determine where the two bad element elements: #5 Misfortune and #2 Sickness which are both very bad Earth elements. Dear Anon, The best option (if you can) is to place a partition between the door and the toilet entrance. The partition can either be closer to the toilet area or the main entrance door. If the layout of your home is `L' shaped, it would be good to break the room into two `rectangles' using a divider. If you are using a divider to block the view of the toilet/ main entrance, it need not necessarily be of full height i.e. not necessary to be up to the height of the ceiling. So long as if one stands at the main entrance and cannot see the toilet door it (the toilet door) no longer becomes a `threat' or Sha Qi. The other option is to close the toilet door when not in use.
