Dear Anon, 1. A small family picture can be placed on one's work top. Or hung on corridors within the house. In my opinion, this does not directly influence the Feng Shui of the home. 2. Under Pillars of Destiny, one would need to know one's element and strength. For example, weak or strong earth element. From here than one can derive one's favourable, unfavourable and wealth element. 3. The Five Element's concept is all about balance and more advanced situations requires the use of one or more elements. 4. For example, under the Flying Star Feng Shui, if locations have `metal element' e.g. a double 7 (two metals), it can be combined with the introduction of water element into the location. 5. Here, metal with water combination is a good combination. 6. This type of situation is commonly used by Feng Shui practitioners. Another example is of a landed property. If there is a lamp post slicing into the window of a house; a common cure is:- Wood element Threat the tall thin lamp post (can be made of any material e.g. wood or metal) represents the wood element because it is tall and thin. Much like the trunk of a tree. Water & Metal element The popular concept here is to use a fish tank with goldfish to counter the above wood threat. In my opinion, this condo has bad layout plans. These are recent pictures taken on Sunday, 30 June 2002. Two of the pictures showing advertising for unsold units. TOP was in 2000. These units are 2 years old.

For a house which has sloping back and in this example with a major road at it's back, such retaining brick walls are ideal. Notice that the retaining wall(s) are of sufficient height.

Dear Diana, In my opinion, most of us, would face the same sort of problems. Especially if a house has not being looked into, prior to the purchase. Sometimes, even if we activately seek to find a good house, eventually, the bedroom may not be suitable. Or, one of the partners is either a East or West group persons. From the many cases, I personally feel that, no matter how, one should get the Shapes and Forms correct in the first instance. The overriding consideration is based on the Shapes and Forms Feng Shui. And once this is good both external and internal, it is better than trying to fit oneself in a `Eight House' dilemma. So far, there is no basis (from what I know) that NW belongs to the male domain. Maybe persons, the person trying to interpet the Trigram for that sector is over zealous. Even so, there is no basis in practial Feng Shui to use this methodology. Sometimes, try as we might, we cannot literally forgo staying or sleeping in sectors that are there. For the breadwinners, it is better for them to occupy the master-bedroom. If the Eight House theory is not optimium for oneself or for the family, it is but one of the theories relating to Feng Shui of the home. If the sectors are not good, than, we look at both Shapes and Forms (good placement of the bed) and Flying Star to help reduce any imbalances at that sector. Warmest Regards, Cecil

Location: Lakepoint Drive Developer: Jurong Town Corporation TOP was in 1983. This estate is around 19 years old. Tenure: 99 years. Total units: 304 Comprising of: 2 bedrooms, Mainsonette, townhouse and penthouse. This condo is in a `U' ( horse-shoe ) shape. This is suppose to be a good design. However, it is a pity that there is no water positions or swimming pool located within this `U' shape. But rather, the swimming pool is to the right of the estate. PS. Total units: 684 Consisting of: 84 studio apartments, 2 bedrooms, 3, 4 and 5 bedrooms. In my opinion, becareful if you are looking at second hand units in this condominium: 1. The units are like in a butterfly design. Inauspicious shape. As butterfiles live a short life. (Real butterflies live for only 1 week). 2. Many of the units have toilets at the centre-point. (Inauspicious). 3. The entire estate is opposite the New Changi Hospital. (In my opinion, as time goes by, the influence of the not so new Changi Hospital would have an influence on this site.) Take extra care in your selection of a second-hand unit, if you are looking at any of the units in Eastpoint Green.

Location: Transit Road Developer: MCL Land Expected TOP is in 2004. Should be under Period 8. Overall, this is a four storey development. Total units: 1,281 2 or 3 bedrooms. Ground level units have distinctive Personal Enclosed Space (PES). Tenure: 99 years. Price per square foot is approximately $465 to $550. Worth considering, second-hand if available. Distinctive, 4 storey high. Many of the ground floor units have Personal Enclosed Space (PES). Total units: 328 2, 3 and 4 bedroom types. 3 and 4 bedroom types on ground level with PES. Nice ambience and distintive, low level housing units. Unlike the common towering blocks of flats that we get to see locally. Worth taking a look if second hand units are available. Price per square foot range from $595 to $621 depending on the level chosen.

Location: Tanjong Rhu Road The TOP for this site was in 1983. This development is close to 19 years old. Sims Ville Condominium was completed in 1998. TOP same year. Developer: Sims Place Realty Ltd (CapitalLand) - formerly developed by DBS. Tenure: 99 Years Location: Geyland East Avenue 2 In my opinion, this condo has `several' landmines within it's vicinity, Chinese temples, mosque, church. The MRT track is also close-by. In Hong Kong, some Feng Shui practitioners go to the extend of encouraging their clients to purchase a `block' of earth' similar to the one attached. This is placed at the mountain star position (if there is one found). It can range from a one feet to a few feet. Quite a massive piece of earth. Warmest Regards, Cecil

Dear Lina, In Feng Shui, it is easier done if this is a landed property i.e. placing a lamp at a corner of the missing area or to do landscaping. Where, a top view would show the missing corner being `landscaped' with e.g. potted plants or a grass field covering it. But in an apartment, the two most common ways are:- 1. If it is possible, one side of the missing corner can be placed with a mirror. But do take note the conditions for placement of the mirror:- - If this is the bedroom location, it is best not to have the mirror reflect towards the bed. - Never use two `split' pieces of mirror. - An alternative (some FS practitioners) suggest is to place a wooden wind chime at the corner of this missing area. Since the corner is usually made of concrete (earth), the wooden windchime (wood destroys earth). This is a valid. - Some other FS practitioners ask that one hang crystals on the windows. Dear Matthew, 1. I would assume that your parents may not want to spent too much money in the improvement of the basement. 2. Basically, you can go down to using the Yin and Yang concept as a starting point. 3. Here, you may have to ask yourself the question: "Do I sleep and work at the basement. Or both". 4. Since this is the basement, assuming that there is minimal light, it is best to have light coloured walls (to brighten up) the basement. 5. More yin suggests, more rest. But if you need to study or do work at the basement, then, have a balance of both yin and yang. 6. If there is natural light coming into the basement, do take advantage of this. 7. Dear Peck Wun, Usually the auspicious dates would have at least (if not very auspicious, auspicious). Besides these, do look for alternative dates e.g. `Average' days. The main concern is to start work during the Chinese 7th month which is on / between 9 August 2002 to 5 September 2002. During this period, it is advisable not to move-in or start renovation work on any of these dates. But, one can choose an auspicious date in July to start work. (This is OK). Today, 26 June 2002, I passed by this condominium. At Regent Grove Condominium's upper decks in the car park (located along Choa Chu Kang Drive), a banner indicates that there are still "choice units" up for grabs. It seems peculiar that despite obtaining its TOP (Temporary Occupation Permit) in 2000, which was two years ago, and its close proximity to Yew Tee MRT, there are still no interested buyers. It is strongly advised to steer clear of this location at all costs! (Developer: Orchard Parade Holdings Ltd & Yeo Hiap Seng Ltd). Tenure: 99 years. Total of 553 units.

Dear Diana, In my opinion, there is no evidence or detailed studies done on the situation faced by you. Although, it is not good to have such a hole especially if it collects stagnant water (for a few days). As mentioned, frankly, there is not much documented cases of bad feng shui relating to your situation. If one's current situation is not that good and in the immediate future, you do not intend to build a pool, it is best to see if it can be leveled. Dear Kathy, It is best to find out where is the frontage of your house, first. In some homes, although the main door can be at one side of the house; but in some instances, you may have the `back' of the house as your `frontage'. For example, there are homes facing the sea. In such a situation; one may have a road leading to the main door. But, all the view is at the `back' or frontage of the house. If one's home is of this situation, then, there is no issue. Dear Anon, I hope I get your question correct. If not, please respond again. It is not so much of where the bedroom door is facing. But rather, where is the bedroom located. For example, at the centrepoint of the house, determine where the bedroom is located. If the bedroom is at East sector, then the bedroom is located there. Sometimes, a bedroom can be located between two sectors e.g. East and South-East i.e. the bedroom may not be exactly at the East. Dear Anon, Although you cannot control the road construction, since south does have so many sickness numbers, it is best to quickly neutralise this. With multiple #2's, cure it with 6 coins at the South side. Optional: You can also place the 6 coins into a glass bottle and add two spoonfuls of salt to plain water. Stir it before placing the 6 coins into the bottle with a open top. This can be placed on South side. (make sure that preferably, this is the window area). Else, just hang 6 coins.
