Dear Elena, 1. Majority of the time, the door is tilted especially if it faces the North-East or South-West. North-East (devil's gate) and South-West (devil's backdoor). One consideration here is that for some FS practitioners, N-E facing door (especially for business) should be changed. The belief here is that `ghosts' travel a straight line and by tilting the door, the belief is then that `ghosts' have difficult going thru the door. In Singapore, a famous case is that of the Hyatt Hotel, located in Orchard Road. Here, the all main entrance doors are tilted at an angle. 2. As mentioned above, the above is one of the main reasons for tilting the door. And other considerations, may be felt to be of less importance i.e. tilting to face one's good direction. 3. However, some FS practitioners do advice tilting the door to `kill two birds' with one stone' i.e. change the door direction which was felt to be inauspicious to the owner and let it face an auspicious direction for the owner. 4. For an Eight House (ONLY) practitioner, he may direct the owner to face the door exactly towards the direction ie. the tilt is e.g. at 90 degrees (East, as an example). Or let the tilted door face exactly 180 degrees etc.. 5. For a Flying Star practitioner, he may direct the owner to tilt the door based on 15 degree increments i.e. at one of the 24 directions. (For example, having found the good direction such similiar to the "Finding a Good house report " found in www.geomancy-online.com ). As an example. 6. Under Para 5, the door is tilted at e.g. 0 degree, 15 degree , 30 degree, 45 degree etc.... The door really faces that particular degree (If one stands at the door and takes a compass reading tangent to the door). 7. Usually a good date is chosen to remove/change the door. 8. Dear Wasis, For info, there may be deviations in interpretation by many practitioners on this issue: 1. Fire element? Some FS practitioners may view it as a Fire element: 1.1. Some consider, electricity i.e. using the PC (chiefly thru electricity or circuit boards i.e. memory, cpu and hardware as Fire element. Where fire = electricity. 1.2 If the business is related to software production, and thru the end result the `package': A marketing or sales personnel, who markets the product can be considered under the Fire element. Or hopefully under the Fire element (with the hope) that the product can be successful i.e. `fiery' sales or preference for activity. 2. Water element? In my opinion, I would personally view software production OVERALL as a water element as it involves thought needed to create and test the program akin to a fluid or use of brain matter (even thou programming is may be structured but it requires human thought). As I mentioned, the view of the element may vary with different practitioners and depending on how they view or percieve the activity. Therefore, there is no right or wrong answer to this question. On some occassions, in the past, I do see lenghtly `arguments' in some other forums or newsgroup on this. I feel that this is unhealthy and counter-productive. Dear Andy, 1. If the upper floors does not have entrance or exit point(s) you may have to analyse the top floor using the same time period as the ground floor. This is because, usually under Flying Star, the key `ingredient' is the direction of the main entrance door plus the time period ie. Period 6 or 7. 2. Dear Veraa, 1. In my opinion, it is not adviseable to place any objects (if possible) at the centre-point area of the home especially if it is a fish tank. 2. In your case, it would not be auspicious to see three shadows of knives as (in my opinion) it represents Sha Qi. 3. As for the effect of the three containers, if it is already placed there, you should monitor the situation closely especially for the next month to three months (as the effect would be felt if any during this time). Dear Brenda, In my opinion, flower prints including leaves are acceptable on comforters and sheets. In fact, quite alot of bed sheets/spreads do use the flower/leaf theme. Unlike: 1. Actual plants where; when it grows, a more create yang environment. 2. Actual water, creates too yin i.e. fish tank in the bedroom or a picture of a rushing water-fall or `choppy' seas / waterfall. Dear Tom, 1. From what I understand, rubber trees was originally imported into Singapore botanic gardens. 2. Later on, because of the significance of latex, rubber trees were grown particularly in West Malaysia where the sap is `milked' and carefully made into latex sheets. These sheets are very smelly. 3. When I was young, I remembered my grandparent (mother's side) own a rubber plantation and I particularly liked `playing' with the seeds.. where, one rubs it on a surface e.g. tile and it heats up and feels warm to the touch. 4. Rubber trees can grow particularly tall and I believe what you mentioned is only a plant. If it is planted in a pot, the tree would not grow large. 5. In my opinion, there is really nothing inauspicious about the rubber tree. Perhaps, it is the concern of the sap that some may not like the plant. But in order to produce the sap, the `skin' of the tree has to be peeled off carefully without damaging the plant. If this is carefully done, it can give years of `sap'. Warmest Regards, Cecil

Dear Diane, 1.In my opinion, kei loons and especially a pair of lions are usually decorative items. 2. In many parts of China, one can see a huge pair of lions outside the entrances of large buildings. 3. In my opinion, there is nothing really magical in them other than they give an imposing `confidence' to the building(s). 4. In Singapore, a pair of lions (large ones) are very popular also. For example, one can see a pair of lion statues outside the Chinese Chamber of Commerce, Singapore. At the main entrance of Ngee Ann City (mega) city. Many temples also have the lion statues "standing guard". 5. In my opinion, kei loons are more commonly placed in homes or above the pillars of the drive-way gate. Perhaps we can call kei loons as `puppies' and as a decorative item. Nothing magical. 6. In many very old buildings especially bungalow buildings, the belief is to use figurines with `fierce' or scary look decorating the frontage of the home. Several temples use a pair of figurines of the Door God `fiercely' protecting the home. 7. The belief here is that if humans are not scared of such tame objects as as `sweet looking' kei loon or lion, why should bad spirits? 8. In my opinion, kei loons and lions are thus decorative items... 9. Sorry can u elaborate what is Pi You as this may not be the correct han yi pin yin description of an object and it is hard to piece what it is. 10. For gold ingots, if they are real, and if the price of gold is up (they are never up); sell it and keep the money in the Bank. *JOKE* Well for a piece of imitation gold ingot, if one wants to place, it, think of it simply as a small decorative item i.e. place it where you feel appropriate. Dear Anon, Another area, you can look at or minimise miscarriages is to check whether there is a #5 (misfortune) especially in your bedroom. You can generate the free flying star report and check if #5 is in the bedroom where you are staying in. Dear Anon, One observation in Singapore is that there are still many Geomancers; many only familiar with Eight House Theory and practising FS. Some of these practitioners started FS business as a novice, finding the simplicity of Eight House and have not upgraded themselves in their " FS careers ". Hopefully, they should compensate this with good Shapes and Form FS. The main worry about applying only Eight House or Flying Star is that these two theories should not be used in isolation. Many a times, one who only favours numerology i.e. Flying Star; may overlook the Shapes and Form. It is of no great value if it sounds nice on paper i.e. the stars looks great but everyting else outside the house is a `disaster' i.e. the site is lousy, the house has many threats.... With the advent of the internet, many of us, may even be more well versed than a local practitioner. We all can learn an important lesson here: " Learning never ends " and we must constantly have an open mind. Apply concepts or theories that have worked for many people and throw out those that have the list chance of success. Dear All, Here are some questions which we can use as a guideline:- 1. How useful is Shapes and Form Feng Shui? We can make use of Shapes and Form Feng Shui to review our home with regards to the strengths and weakness / threats to our home. If we are choosing a new home, and take full advantage of Shapes and Form FS, we may get a Quantum Leap in Feng Shui LUCK. (This area is worth understanding). But do remember that it is easy to understand but difficult to apply in some instances. 2. Go on the Defensive... Even if a house is considered an EXCELLENT house (by virtue of its EXCELLENT Shapes and Form), this does not mean that such a house does not have a `defect'. The rule: Protect, protect and protect. Stand at the middle of the main entrance looking out and each window in the home. If there is a poison arrow aimed into i.e. the main entrance or window, try to neutralise it. 3. I am currently staying in this present house and WANTS to become an instant MILLIONAIRE... Advice: Go buy a Lottery ticket instead... If your personal LUCK is good... perhaps one can strike rich. But if one feels that FS is the means to becoming a millionaire, one may be disillusioned. 4. My family members are constantly sick or get into a misfortune (e.g. accident). Preferably, seek professional FS advise instead. 5. I have invested heavily in a new home and want to have peace of mind after I moved in. Preferably, seek professional FS advice. 6. My company is in the .dot com business. I face financial problems. Hey!; So does every other .dot com companies especially if they are not a brick and mortar company. For business within the same segment or sector ie. .dot coms, Feng Shui is not the answer! Look elsewhere for finance. 7. Dear Madi, In all periods, #2 (sickness) ; #3 (Bad wood); #5 (misfortune) can be considered bad. But some FS practitioners consider the period i.e. in Period 2 (which is along long way to go); #2 may not be all that bad. Or if we are in Period 5, #5 may not be all that bad. A good example is #7. In period 7, this current period ending in year 2003, #7 is OK because #7 is associated with the Period 7 number. But, #7 if interpreted under Period 8, may not be good. For those who have houses with Double #7 at the front door, need not worry, because, if there is no major renovation done in Period 8, your house will still continue to enjoy #7 or where this house is known as a Period 7 built home. Should one do a major renovation, say in Year 2004, under Flying Star calculations, the stars will fly and the front door need not necessarily be #7. In some instances it could be Double 8s. Dear Miss Quiss, 1. I can understand your frustration in wanting to learn so much of FS and applying it. 2. Generally, many of us do not really need FS. In fact, my people, have been very (very) successful without ever calling in a FS practitioner. 3. What you have mentioned with regards to Traditional FS may not be totally true. 4. This is because, Traditional FS is not ONLY about Flying Stars and how these stars fly. There are other aspects of Traditional FS such as Shapes and Form, which we read about and can apply to our home. Here, Shapes and Form is used to analyse a home especially as a defense posture i.e. threats to the main entrance or living room. 5. In my opinion, many successful people, have very good homes (excellent Shapes and Forms) and prosper. And many people simply fall in love with their homes; and concentrate on their careers... Are doing much finer than those who, `worry' this or that. Therefore, to say that Traditional FS rely only on flying stars is not exactly correct. 6. In many of messages, I mentioned, FS is all about trying to increase `LUCK'. There are many forms or types of `LUCK'. And, within FS, there are various techniques and weightage ... which may help increase or bring down luck. 7. In Traditional FS, the chief forms of `LUCK' is: 7.1 Shapes and Form 7.2 Flying Star 7.3 Eight House 7.4 Correlation to Pillars of Destiny I have elaborated in the past that if one has excellent Shapes and Form for the home, the weightage of LUCK could be in the factor (especially EXCELLENT Shapes and Form) can bring the LUCK already to 60 to 70 percent of the overall LUCK for the home. Any additional increase, we want to do, can only bring in a marginal return of less than 40 to 50 percent more than the above. 8. One can still buy books particulary explaining the `Shapes and Form Feng Shui' but in my opinion, other books, may not be effective as it is not personalised to a person. 9. Books that ask us to enhance i.e. sectors i.e. mentor luck, career luck etc... may not be that effective... Dear Anon, 1. Under the Flying Star (numerology) theory of Feng Shui; the two earth elements are #5 (misfortune) and #2 (sickness). 2. As one can see from the above, the two earth elements are inauspcious. The colour for earth element is = Yellow. 3. Usually, if one constantly falls sick (especially in the new house); most likely there could be an influence of bad earth #2 (sickness star) at a specific location i.e. such as the bedroom of your son. 4. It would be best to confirm whether, there are any bad bad element. The cure for bad earth element i.e. #2 or #5 is the use of metal element cure. Usually if 6 metal i-ching coins tied with red string should do the `trick' to neutralise #2 or #5. And one may not need to change the colour e.g. of the bedroom ie. from yellow to another colour. I was trying very hard to see how I could approach to `answer' your question but each time when I things like `mento luck'; career luck etc... It is very difficult to relate this to Traditional Feng Shui which does not associate a room with `mentor.' With regards to your assumption that NW is the metal element sector. Generally, this sector is the metal element sector but may be too simplistic a statement to use. This is because, if one uses the Flying Star analysis; because of the interaction of the #mountain / #water and base # and the time period i.e. Period 7, this sector may not necessary be all metal element. It depends on the interaction of all three elements. The wood panelling may aid or further create more problems.. depending on the three elements as mentioned above. In macro Feng Shui, the traditional way is to look at a land where the dragon Qi can flow from within the land mass towards the sea. 3. For example, many Chinese cities were built where the dragon Qi flows towards the sea. 4. Such as a river, which can be considered a dragon where it flows from high above and merge with the sea. 6. This is truly considered the `wealth area' where populations, can grow and `create wealth'. 7. For Hong Kong, many buildings especially if they are at the mouth of the sea, have a clear opening to allow such a dragon flow from the land mass towards the sea. 8. The question asked for micro Feng Shui is: 8.1. If it so easy to determine one's wealth corner in the home, how is it that many of us are still confused and still shaking our head to try and find this wealth corner? 8.2. How is it that there is no specific book that is written purely on `Location of Wealth' Sector. If such a book exist i.e. either it is not real or the author would try to make it even more ambiguious and many people who having read the book would ask the same question as you do... ' How do we locate where the wealth area is? '. 8.3. Traditional FS is about the 5 elements concept and the balance of it at all sectors. 9. Dear Eoin, 1. Although some FS books e.g. author Evelyn Lip had mentioned, certain directions associated with certain occupations. 2. In others, for example, since metal (metal coins) are associated with banking, it was said that Banking outlets should face the `Metal' direction e.g. West or NW. 3. Again, it is said that since South represents `Fire'; business associated with Marketing / Sales should face this direction. 4. In real life, I believe it would be naive to simply look at the `best position' or rather best direction of the front door and associate it with any business. 5. Rather, the front door, should be looked at in relation to the whole business premises. 6. For example, I know of this real life situation of this new condominum where the owner of the supermarket (within the condominum) had perhaps cited their main entrance `wrongly'. Instead of using their main entrance which can be accessible by all, they sited the main entrance within the `secured' controlled gate premises. Here, it made it so inconvienent for their customers to go into their shop house. I wonder how long this shop would last. It may be poor foresight as they had already situated their cashier's counter and it is very much harder for them to resite it without affecting the flow or movement of the supermarket. This is a short write-up on the legend of the Three-legged toad. Which I had included in the Poll of the Three-legged toad:- There are two versions to the legend of the Three-legged toad:- 1. A Chinese Immortal Lui Hai was said to live in the era of the Sung dynasty in the province of Shensi. According to legend, he was the general who successfully fought off Lord Liu (Master of the Sea Toad). To this a statute of Immortal Lui Hai with his three-legged Toad is considered the symbol for money-making. 2. A second version: Legend has it that there was once a Toad which lived in a deep well and emitted poisonous vapors. Immortal Lui Hai lured the creature with a string of gold cash and killed it. 3. More: Often one sees the Chinese God of Wealth being carried in a procession (festive occasions) together with an image of the three-legged Toad. The association with the God of Wealth (Tau Pei Kong) linked the three-legged Toad with wealth. Hope the above will help everyone to better understand the `origins' of why so much commercialization went into this Chinese belief. The three toad has now become a commercial object and things link a coin and `jewel' added to its mouth etc... Therefore, one can now clearly understand that there is no direct link between the three-legged toad with Feng Shui.
