  1. Dear Marla, In Feng Shui, symbolism is very important. Let me illustrate by giving you a few examples:- 1. A glass crystal in the shape of a Triangle or conice is considered as a `Fire' element because of it's shape. 2. A metal candle holder with a candle (with flame) is considered to be made of two elements i.e. metal (candle holder) and flame (fire element). 3. The other factor is the colour. Red, pink or purple represent the " Fire" element. In your case, perhaps you can let me know:- 1. What colour is your mexican tile. 2. Is it made of ceramic i.e. natural stone, earth. 3. Are there any designs on it? 4. Is the tile smooth or has a rough surface? 5. Each tile: Is it square or rectangle or other shape? 6. Are there any designs on it e.g. triangle motif etc?? If so what colour are the designs. Sorry to ask so many questions but if you have the time, do let me know so that I can advise you properly what element it is. With regards to the centre Fire place, an auspicious house normally should have no one element `dominating the centre place. Preferably keep it `clear' or empty. But in your case, you may not have a choice if you need to use it. But if you do not need to use the fire place, you can leave it there. This is considered keeping it `clear'. Normally, you do not need to do a Flying Star assessment but I know some FS practioners may consider the Fire place acceptable at the centre under some conditions of the Flying Star. However, personally, I still feel that if you do not need to use the location, this would do just fine. 2. Dear Evelyn, To determine your main door, you have to:- 1. Find the centrepoint of the house. 2. If you are physically at the home, stand at the centre of the house and from here determine the main entrance door. Where best, go out of your home and take the compass reading of the North to South at a few locations. If in doubt, use the readings taken outside. 3. Can you clarify below:- You have to be exact with the door. From what I understand, I like to clarify that you have to stand at the centre of the house and from here, determine the compass direction of the main door. In this case i.e. if your main door is at the South the compass direction should be around 180 degrees but if it is at SW it should be at around 225 degrees (around this range), Hope the above helps. 3. Dear Jasper, For a start, you can actually generate your personal Eight House Chart if you have not done so already. A detailed step-by-step guide is at url: http://www.geomancy.net/fs/house1.htm additional explantion is available =at http://www.geomancy.net/fs/house2.htm You can also immediately generate a free Eight House Chart at www.geomancy-online.com In a cold country it is acceptable to have an apartment at the basement. However, ideally, one side of the the toilet wall should be along the external wall. Another point is that you should find out how the sewerage pipes run. Preferably, it should `connect' to the toilet and where possible, not go under your basement unit home. If so, try to place your bed away from thi=s `pipe'. You should also check to see if there are any `running water' un=der the home and if so, stay `clear' of this. If you have not read this short article I wrote on " Dangers of undergrou=nd water " please click on this url: http://www.geomancy.net/fs/under.htm As mentioned above, try to do a self audit using the Eight House Theory. Under the Eight house theory, it is good to sleep with your head facing a=ny of the four good directions. 4. Dear Evelyn, It is very common to have both partners (Husband and Wife) each to `belong' to different groups: East / West. 1. Best is that you can obtain a transparency. Use two different coloured pens. `Jot' down each partner's intangible force on the transparency. 2. Next, obtain the layout plan and determine the centrepoint of the house. 3. Get the North to South alignment of the house and indicate this on the layout plan. 4. Superimpose the transparency on the Layout plan (From a North to South alignment). 5. Take note of the Death and Disaster intangible force for both partners (Husband and Wife). Ideally, the Death or Disaster line does not fall on the main entrance door and the bedroom where you are sleeping. (These are the two most important areas to note). 6. The not so bad combinations are:- e.g. Husband / Wife (or vice versa) Husband = either Excellent, Prosperity, Health, Longevity while is Wife = Irritation Husband = either Excellent, Prosperity, Health, Longevity while is Wife = Spook Any of the above combinations of: any of the Four good directions with Irritation or Spook are acceptable although not ideal. This is acceptable for the Main entrance door or bedroom or as I mentioned, any other locations you spent time. Hope that helps. 5. Dear Betty, As you mentioned that you since you moved into the house, you became sick. I would suggest that you:- 1. Use the shapes and form school to check your surroundings. However, a cul de sac under Feng Shui is inauspicious. Rather, it should be the `opposite' i.e. an inverted `wok' (Chinese wok). The above is a contributing factor to your sickness. 2. However, you may want to consider using the Flying Star as this would most likely `detect' where the sickness star is in the house. This can be combined with the Eight House to get a clearer picture. Perhaps, if you have not evaluated your house, you may like to get a free Eight House report. The detailed steps is under this URL: http://www.geomancy.net/fs/house1.htm (There is a computerised report at www.geomancy-online.com ) Try to do the Eight House Chart first. Check where the Death and disaster intangible force is situated at which locations. Ideally, these two should not be at the main entrance or in your bedroom. 6. Dear Desmond, Glyn, Karen, Thank you and we are deeply encouraged by all your words of encouragements. Most of all, all this is attributed to yourself. What I can only say that, based on my personal opinion, many different people will have different level of success. This is because, there are several factors that Feng Shui cannot take into account. The most important `uncontrolled' influence is also your "Heaven Luck". This is why, some may enjoy the level of success of others. While others may be going under a `bad' or inauspicious period e.g. if their Luck Pillars for a particular period is particularly bad. However, by knowing our Heaven Luck e.g. Pillars of Destiny, one can understand and hopefully make use of the information to `change' some of it. I feel that I need to elaborate to everyone and not to give `False' hope to anyone. This is because, Feng Shui is not a `cure' all. There are many things which is out of scope of Feng Shui. One good thing that comes out of Feng Shui even if it does not help them is to give some `hope'. We are excited because, through feedback channels such as this Forum, we can learn from you and thus fine tune our replies, books, courses and reports to make them even more relevant and useful for everyone. As much as we like to provide as many Free Services, I hope members here understand that, we had to have Paid reports or books so as to allow us to do further research and development and in fact to be frank with you, most of the support i.e. Paid Reports help us to pay the `exhorbitant costs of hosting of our servers and all these goes to the Internet Service Providers. Once again, Thank You for your continued support! Cecil Lee P.S. Hi Desmond, regarding your question, will respond to it by tommorrow. Warmest Regards, Cecil -----Original Message----- From: Listmanager To: Recipients of 'free-advice' suppressed suppressed> Date: Friday, April 30, 1999 5:44 PM Subject: Re: ba gua and pa-kua
  10. Dear Toni, The First Heaven Sequence of trigram arrangement is usually used for such purposes or as talisman. This trigram arrangement is `picture perfect' in that the opposite trigram shows a relationship to each other. So you have: Heaven to Earth; Wind to Thunder; Water to Fire; Mountain to Lake. Because it is picture perfect, it is used as a bagua mirror. You can also say that this is a static trigram. The second trigram which was later developed by King Wen, is called the Later Heaven Trigram and yes, it is used for the "living". Here, maybe you would like to know that while the Later Heaven Trigram is used for the living, as I mentioned above, because the First Heaven Sequence Trigram is for the "dead", as it is again `picture perfect'. What better way to `scare' the dead using it instead of the Later Heaven Trigram. Maybe you would like to review this short article I wrote. Please click this link: http://www.geomancy.net/fs/pakua.htm Maybe, you may also want to `re-read' what Lillian Too wrote because, I believe, she would be writing/saying the same thing. Warmest Regards, Cecil -----Original Message----- From: Listmanager To: Recipients of 'free-advice' suppressed suppressed> Date: Friday, April 30, 1999 4:49 PM Subject: Re: ba gua and pa-kua
  11. Dear Joe, Frankly, the Ba gua and pa-kua is one and the same. Where " pa-kua " is commonly `spelt' or pronounced this way by the Hokkiens (a dialect group of the Chinese) while the Ba gua is considered the romanised word in Mandarin. Not to confuse anyone, when we say ba gua mirror, this refers to the First Heaven Sequence Trigram mirror commonly used to be hang above doors of homes in the Far East i.e. Malaysia, Singapore etc.... Therefore, by definition, ba gua = pa-kua. (minus the mirror) Warmest Regards, Cecil -----Original Message----- From: Listmanager To: Recipients of 'free-advice' suppressed suppressed> Date: Friday, April 30, 1999 11:06 AM Subject: ba gua and pa-kua of ba gua, but now I realize they're different things.
  12. Dear Samantha, Congratulations! What you had mentioned is not Feng Shui but Chinese `belief' that when one is pregnant, one must not move the furniture especially your bed. To ward off bad influence, usually, the case is for an expecting mum not to be present during the move or to `see' the move. Put it another way, you should not be involved (in anyway) on the day of the move i.e stay at your parents or other family members home during the shift. 13. Dear Rose, Please see below:- -----Original Message----- From: Listmanager To: Recipients of 'free-advice' suppressed suppressed> Date: Thursday, April 29, 1999 11:10 AM Subject: Schools of Feng Shui Frankly, I have no time to develop another of my domain names: palmistry.net but at a later stage. In Chiromancy or palmistry, you can look at the hands and discover how many offsprings one have. Later on, after we have fully developed Geomancy.net, I will add modules on Chinese Face and Hand reading... So, do look out for more developments. As usual we will also merge technology with all available Chinese astrology, divinity methods ... isn't it exciting?
  14. Dear Rose, I believe, what you mentioned relate rather to the I-Ching (derived from the Book of Changes). A powerful Chinese Divinity method. 1. If you take the 64 hexagrams of the I-Ching and read it from bottom up from 0 to 63, it forms the binary code where our current computers were invented. 2. A few Nobel prize winners said they consulted the I-Ching and attributed it to their success! 3. I forgot who but someone discovered our genetic chain and attribute it to the I-Ching. 4. There are well known reports of people using the I-Ching to forecast the stock market using the I-Ching. 5. Recently, last year, I saw a TV program. Someone used the I-Ching and `plotted' our world situation and each time there is a dip in the I-Ching, there was a major war etc.... I was `worried' when this person I cannot remember the program or the person said that sometime in 2xxx (not sure which date ... forgot already) there is a sudden large dip which signifies quite a major `disaster' ... I really hope I could remember the date but I think it is a few years from now...*Gulp* Therefore, I can only assume that what you mention relate to the I-Ching (Chinese divinity method). To clarify, Feng Shui is a different `discipline'. -----Original Message----- From: Listmanager To: Recipients of 'free-advice' suppressed suppressed> Date: Thursday, April 29, 1999 11:19 AM Subject: Year 2000
  15. Dear Mercury, Further to my earlier reply, I like to share with everyone more on the toilet:- For those of you who had taken the Applied Feng Shui course would have a seen a graphic illustration of what are the bad or inauspicious locations for the toilet. (Besides other inauspicious locations shown in another illustration). If you have observed closely, all the bad or inauspicious locations fall `exactly' on the Eight compass directions. For example, True: North 0 degrees, South 180 degrees, East 90 degrees, West 270 degrees and Cardinal points: North-East e.g. 45degrees, South-East 135 degrees, South-West 225 degrees and North-West 315 degrees. What you can learn here? 1. If you are building a home avoid having the toilet falling exactly on these True compass directions or cardinal points. For Example, if your toilet is at the north, where possible, let it be instead be at 22.5 degrees North. Try not to have the toilet `land' directly at these specific locations. 2. Why? If you notice, most of the calculation methods under Feng Shui or readings take into account `True' cardinal points and any directions away from these `True' cardinal points are best. This is to as the saying goes avoid a `direct hit'. Do take note that however, under the Flying Star theory, it goes by 15 degree increments e.g. 0 Degrees, 15 degrees, 30 degrees, 45 degrees, 60 degrees, 75 degrees et... so where possible the toilet should not be at 60 degrees. Frankly, this concept is much harder to apply under the Flying Star Theory. 16. Dear Rose, Please see below:- -----Original Message----- From: Listmanager To: Recipients of 'free-advice' suppressed suppressed> Date: Wednesday, April 28, 1999 7:59 PM Subject: Green Dragon and White Tiger Sad to say, I usually try to avoid answering this question. This is because, this falls under the Shapes and Form School and it is best to be present to look at the location before providing any comments. Not that I do not `trust' your words but in order to provide a good assessment, one has to be physically present to `review' this type of `question'. Hope you understand. This is because unlike a `True' dragon or tiger where you can actually see the profile, the `False' dragon or tiger is best left to an expert in Feng Shui to locate. Here, I would like to say that if one only practises Flying Star for example, even if you get all your figures correct, but did not look at the Shapes and Form, this is equally bad. Nowadays, I receive at least one or two e-mails from users who seek help after consulting a professional Feng Shui practioner. What I noticed is that some of them consulted the students of `well known' Masters but things went wrong later. What happened was that some of these students are "too academic". They can calculate `flawlessly' but what is the use of calculating the birth chart of the house without reference to the people living there. Even if one has a "perfect house" if you do not relate it to the people living there, then I suggest, becareful here. You will only be inviting trouble to yourself. Usually, the dragon embraces the tiger on the side of the building not at the front. For those who have taken up the Applied Feng Shui course would be aware that in your case, this could be based on another set of Feng Shui `theory' i.e. there is a signifance of the terrain of a house e.g. if it is east sloping or west sloping etc... The only thing you should do is to sleep with your head facing one of your good locations or sleep further away from the Death line. Warmest Regards, Cecil
  17. Dear Rose, Please see below:- -----Original Message----- From: Listmanager To: Recipients of 'free-advice' suppressed suppressed> Date: Wednesday, April 28, 1999 5:44 PM Subject: FIVE YELLOWS vs Properity in 8-House A accurate Flying Star chart, should preferably take into account:- 1. The birth chart of the house. 2. Your personal kua number. 3. The exact direction of the main entrance. (in 15 degree increments) Therefore, in my opinion, if something is so general as where it can be applied to everyone without taking into consideration a personalised Flying Star chart as basic as the birth chart of the house and the exact direction of the house, I will not consider this reading `correct' for everyone. Yes. Unlike the above (general Flying Star chart), the personal Kua applies at all times. If you notice it is personalised to everyone i.e. Kua 1 to 8. It does not change after a certain period of time. Ideally, you should consider the Eight House Theory as a personalized Theory of your good/bad locations. The only thing that it does not consider is to match it with the birth chart of the house. Otherwise, this is a very simple yet powerful theory. Personally, I found the Eight House Theory to be `accurate' and many users here have benefited by this theory. Currently, there are a few mailing lists that does not believe in this theory. These are mostly "western " trained Traditional Feng Shui practioners who specializes in Xuan Kong or Flying Star. 1. What I believe they failed to see is that the Eight House is meant more for your personal directions and suitability of a home. 2. Some modify the Eight House to incorporate the Flying Star which makes it highly "voliatile" and an example is in Derek Walter's handbook which he modified the Eight House and combine this with the Flying Star. 3. Some of these western school used the element of the Eight house to find a cure but later realise that it is opposite that of the Flying Star or Xuan Kong. This is wrong! The Eight House should stand on it's own without modifications. Here you will see why some `Western' Traditional School Feng Shui practioners `condemn' the Eight House Theory. At Geomancy.net, we do lots of research and look at all aspects of Feng Shui. One sad thing is that currently because of the impact of the Internet which is dominated by Western Traditional Feng Shui practioners, little is heard of the Traditional Feng Shui Masters or those that do not speak English. This is why we try to be as objective as possible. Trust me. I have more than 400 books on Feng Shui and every other Feng Shui book written in Mandarin uses the Eight House theory. So if the Eight House theory is so widely `condemned' by the Western Traditional Feng Shui practioners. You will know that because the Western Traditional Feng Shui Schools because it has a head start in teaching Feng Shui (mainly in English language), if you look at it closely, I feel there may be "bias" and they continue to give their own perception and continue to advise everyone that the Eight House is second rate or only professionals use Xuan Kong or Flying Star. We do not intend to start a war here but rather, hope you can give some thought into what I have mentioned above. If you do not believe me, and you know how to read Chinese, get books written in Mandarin. If the Eight House Theory (not Eight Aspirations) is second rate, why Mandarin authors including many Masters `swear' by it? Odd isn't it? This is a wrong conception. This is why, we at Geomancy.net will continue to bring you both sides of the coin. We are versatile and continue to bring you quailty Feng Shui using the best Feng Shui techniques encompassing many specialised areas like Shapes and Form, Pillars of Destiny, Xuan Kong and yes! The Eight House Theory. The most exciting part is that within Ten to Five years time, Geomancy-U.com will have one of the largest pool of we believe thinking Feng Shui graduates whose services are valued by everyone. This is because, we hope our students after completing our courses will not be `narrow' minded but schooled in all Feng Shui and Chinese Astrology disciplines. Sorry for going off-topic abit, but Yes.
  18. Dear Magnani, Please see below:- -----Original Message----- From: Listmanager To: Recipients of 'free-advice' suppressed suppressed> Date: Wednesday, April 28, 1999 9:35 PM Subject: shall I put all my water/wealth symbols in my hallway to my house? Based on the available information you have provided me, yes, it is acceptable to place a fishtank and a small water fountain on the left side of the main entrance. From what I can understand, I hope that the fishtank is not overall huge or large. A small water fountain is acceptable. This is because too much water can cause an imbalance of yin/yang i.e. too much water becomes too `yin' and as West (metal) is also a yin location, do not use fish tank that e.g. exceeds 30 percent of the main entrance. I guess this is not possible but if it is a pond in the house, try not to exceed this percentage. For those who are not familiar with water feng shui, please take note water symbolically represents wealth/prosperity. The best is to use a fountain or for larger premises even a waterfall. Fish tanks are OK .. however, meant more for curing sha qi but there is little harm in using it in place of a fountain. The rationale Lillian Too mentioned not to place water on the right (ie. when you are standing on the steps of your main entrance and lookig out) ideally water should not be on the right side of the house. If so, one's spouse or partner may have `wondering eyes ' or involved in illicit affairs. As I mentioned earlier, that based on the available information provided, I can only advise you base on the theory of Eight Aspirations which I personally feel should come after all other Feng Shui theories. One important consideration here is, I hope that you are not a person with `weak fire' element because if so, and counting the number of water enhancements that you have, you may easily extinguish your `fire' element. On the other hand if you are a strong fire element person, water would be good but use it moderately. Ideally, the carp painting should have eight or nine fishes in it. This is usually the most auspicious number of fishes for this painting. I am quite afraid of advising anyone based simply on the Eight Aspirations theory. In a few earlier messages, I felt that only after one has done other Feng Shui audits and have the luxury, then may consider using the Eight Aspirations and this must not `overlap' or superseed other more important Feng Shui considerations. Thanks for providing this information. Let's review your element and it's strength: 1. Being a strong metal person, you need balance by having fire. (As fire destroys metal). 2. Please note that your house because it is west facing: overall it is considered a Metal house. Under such a situation, you will notice that you need fire element in order for you to balance your strong metal element. You should avoid earth and metal element which will further strengthen your strong metal element. Water element fortunately is `produced' by metal and thus does not affect you that much UNLESS you use too much of it. So fortunately, the current enhancements can be considered to have `no' or not much impact on you. In terms of colours you could avoid yellow (earth element) and white (metal). But white is not as bad because, it is a neutral colour. If you are staying alone and there is no impact on others, then for your room, you could use pink or bedsheet : pink colour. As pink = fire element which helps to `neutralize' your metal element. Hope you can let me know who mentioned this. This is because the Flying Stars can be used generally or very specific to a person. Depending on this, itl change the interpretation drastically. Furthermore, other Feng Shui considerations should be considered:- 1. Ideally, water locations are: North (Water element); East (Wood) and South-East (Wood). This is because water helps wood to grow. 2. South-West: Is the devil's backdoor and the Earth element. A good Feng Shui practioner will ask a question: How does water `fit' in to the Earth element. It neither enhances or destroys it. One answer is that if it does not enhance or destroy the element of the location, it is considered neutral. So OK to place water there `since it does not hurt' any thing there. However, as I mentioned, too much water may cause an imbalance of yin over yang. And since South-West is the devil's backdoor and considered a YIN location, I let your imagination take over. Thanks for your encouraging words. We will continue to develop new tools and enhance existing ones. So look out! Warmest Regards, Cecil

Believe me, it is more powerful sometimes than following all sorts of books and we may end up worse or feel "depressed" having to follow a `set' of routines. 21. Dear Mercury, Yes, it applies to the headboard of the bed too. Currently, based on the layout plan you have drawn, on the `left' there a=re two sets of toilets of your master bedroom. There are two issues here:- 1. As you are aware, preferably, the bed should not be on the same wall a=s part of the toilet. 2. Because of the two toilets (on the left side) this has caused an imbalance of Yin over Yang. Toilets are Yin and it is best to `neutralise=' this with more Yang elements. For example, as I mentioned earlier, keep it bright and dry. In your room=, depending on your element or your husband's element, I mentioned that you can use colours. Here, as you had mentioned that you are strong Fire and your husband is strong earth, the ideal colour in your bedroom is White = Metal element. Metal will help to balance your husband's strong earth element and as metal produces water, help to balance your strong fire element. Other than the above, you should close the master bedroom toilet door whe=n not in use. In addition to this, you should avoid placing too many mirror=s e.g. in the toilet / toilet door or in the bedroom as normal mirrors can =be considered `yin' element. In fact, it would best (if you can) shift over to the other side if it is feasible. This is better than the current situation of having your bed an=d headrest on this wall. In addition, try not to keep the room dim or `dark'. You could use `thin' curtains or if this has no effect, bright coloured curtains e.g. with blu=e colour in them. 22. Dear Kieron, Please see below:- -----Original Message----- From: Listmanager To: Recipients of 'free-advice' suppressed suppressed> Date: Tuesday, April 27, 1999 11:18 AM Subject: 'flying stars' or 'lucky stars'? I have not read T. Raphael Simons book before. If I am not mistaken, one of the users here recommended his book. Under Traditional Feng Shui, there is a theory on Flying Stars and another set of `stars'. If I am not mistaken, pardon me, I think on the `surface' it looks like two different things. No, the Eight Points (again, if I guess correctly) refers to the Eight House Theory or commonly called the Four East/West Group of persons. There are lots of examples of the Eight House Theory in geomancy.net. The Eight Associations is basically an interpretation of each Gua. For example, North is referred to as the Career location etc... Apologies, no idea so cannot really comment here. In Feng Shui, you need to assess based on various theories. This includes the exterior i.e. the landscape, the site and the home not just the interior. However, contrary to popular belief, we should not look at Feng Shui just at the " Money point " but look at it from a holistic view or after doing a complete assessment. Here, if one is too impatient to learn (in time) can always engage a reputable Feng Shui practioner. Otherwise, you need to take some time to digest and follow-up. Let's take the word you used " Money point ". I understand everyone wants to improve their live. But so far, there is no book available to give each of us a quick fix solution. If someone can easily come up with a book and point the direction to the so called elusive ` money point ' then, the author should be rich by now else be labelled a swindler. Real Feng Shui is complex and as I mentioned, it is not so easy to find our `money point'. Lets take a look at the Eight House Theory: the main purpose is to find whether we are suitable to a home or location. Other than this, it is personalized to a person's kua number. Although it has it's prosperity intangible force, due to the time factor it shifts. So are we going to daily `chase' after this `elusive' wealth? As the toilet is a yin location, we should make it more yang by making it bright, dry and where possible close the door. Warmest Regards, Cecil
  23. Dear Anita, There are three `issues' regarding the computer: 1. The Video Display Screen which is made of glass. Depending on the type of computer screen used, some are `reflective'. If you have read many messages on `avoiding' mirrors in the bedroom, here, the computer screen = mirror and should preferably not face any part of the bed. If so, you can simply use a computer cover or a cloth to cover it when not in use. 2. Some Feng Shui Masters believe that computers are `electrical' and belongs to the water element. In this case, if will affect those particularly those with `weak' fire element. 3. As computers are `electrical' there will be some form of magnetic interference and some believe that it is not good to place it at one's auspicious location. Furthermore, again depending on the brand of the monitor screen, some may be low radiation, while others `high' radiation. Some FS practioners will ask one to place plants. A NASA study had found plants good for indoors and outdoors. Personally, I feel point number 1 is the most important consideration. But again, like I mention, it all depends on the QUALITY of the personal computers purchased. Many good computers have screens that do not reflect thus no longer act as a mirror. While others are very low radiation and safe. In Feng Shui, we again should not go too detailed into " peanut " Feng Shui but rather go with our feelings in this area. I will be more worried if your bed faces the toilet bowl or it faces directly the door. As I mentioned, place these at locations where you feel "correct" is the most important thing. 24. Dear Anita, Grateful in the future, please do not sent more than one e-mail on the same subject. For this subject "retification for north east cut in the house ", you have sent two duplicate messages. Users who receive messages from the mailing list can be `irritated' by this. If you are staying in a house, (with a compound), you can `landscape' your garden to create a profile of the missing corner e.g. a grass verge plus `stones' lining the missing corner. If you take a helicopter' view, you should see a profile of the missing corner `added' to the home. You can at the corner of the garden place a lampost. If you live in an apartment, you can place mirrors on both sides of the wall to neutralise it. 25. Dear Chris, Please see below. -----Original Message----- From: Listmanager To: Recipients of 'feng-shui-tips' suppressed 'feng-shui-tips' suppressed> Date: Wednesday, April 21, 1999 4:12 PM Subject: Take reference from where? Thanks for highlighting this interesting question. 1. I believe, some of the authors or practioners are not Singaporeans are not aware of the concept of HDB flats. Here the confusion may arise. This is because, first of all Feng Shui can be applied at a very macro level e.g. to assess the location of a city and building. Therefore, here, I feel the confusion may thus arise. It is not wrong to apply Feng Shui assessment to a whole building or the main door. When a Feng Shui practioner assess the whole building, it implies that he/she looks at the global picture of the building. This includes the surrounding building. In many cities and even in Singapore, take a look at the skyline. For example, you will notice that one local Bank is tall and triangular shaped representing the `fire' element. Some of these not so friendly buildings may have got their advise from not so `environmental' Feng Shui Masters who use the `fire' element to engulf some of the nearby `wood' element building. Another local Bank has `poison' arrows `shooting off' in all directions other than it's twin shorter sister building. The essence here is that when some authors write books, they write on a macro level in assessing Feng Shui of a building. For example, if the entrance of the building is facing South, the building facade belongs to the `fire' element. Fire represents `activity' and thus good for activities like Sales and marketing. Another example is the logo of the building. In the above example, of the local Bank which is tall and triangular shaped, their logo has purple covering a metal coin. Purple = Fire element and Coin = Metal element. This symbollically represents fire `destroy's' metal to produce wealth. But if you look at a HDB flat, many individuals want to have their flat/apartment assessed and call a Feng Shui practioner to do so. Here, again it is not wrong to apply Feng Shui assessment to the main entrance door. But a good Feng Shui practioner will also look at the shape or profile of the entire building in relation to the surrounding areas. Most `older' 3 room HDB flats are of the Earth element. So here, a threat would be a tall `thin' structure or buildings nearby which is of the `Wood' structure. You also mentioned that some Feng Shui practioners take reference from the windows. Here, they are slightly more `maverick' in their application of Feng Shui but still not wrong. This is because in most HDB flats, Qi or Chi usually comes thru from the `living' room and `exits from the kitchen. These FS practioners thus consider the `entrance' from the living room window. From my personal experience, I have advised quite a few HDB owners to take note of the `active ch'i' coming from their living room but immediately flows out thru their kitchen windows. Here, they should try to close the windows / `diagonally ' or if they have a door built to restrict the flow much the better. As you can see, some wanna be Feng Shui practioners may simply read a book or two and come to the wrong conclusion and apply the wrong concepts e.g. if a famous FS author says `must' assess the building, and if one read in-between the lines and misinterpret to say that even for HDB flats, you have to assess an apartment that way. Here, we must start to understand why this is so: Is the FS author living in Singapore? Does he/she know about the structure of HDB blocks? Unfortunately, the quality of Feng Shui practioners varies all over the world. Some may have fixed mindsets and some may be flexible. The best is to choose wisely but the best is like yourself who take the time to check and understand further:) Eve, has replied on this. However, as she mentioned, you may expect commercialisation in some of the `free' seminars or even `paid' seminars. Thats great to hear:) Wishing you success in your endeavour! Warmest Regards, Cecil Lee
