Hi, Basically, the reason why we give 12 periods instead of the usually 8 period is to give a comprehensive overview of your life. From that you can see how your chart whether you are person who has very good luck all the time (ie a person born with a silver spoon or one that has a hard life). Usually, the person who has good luck most of his life (which he can enjoy), ie from child birth to old age. Such a person tends to have a more fortunate life than another who has only say 60-80 year of age before he or she enjoys good luck. A person's luck is affected by the influences that affect his or her luck. ie every 10-year / 5-year / year a person's luck change, so if you continuously enjoy good luck from the 10-year, 5-year and yearly, that means your luck for that period is extremely good. Dear Utpal, It is best to check the specific Flying Star chart of your home. For example: Senario 1 - Main door at West 2 or 270 degrees. The Flying star chart for South is as follows: The house is a Period 7 house. And it has the following stars: 1 mountain 5 water 2 base And as you had mentioned, there is a year 1. In such a home, South sector is plagued with two very bad earth elements: #5 misfortune, sickness and #2 sickness. And these are earth elements. If the material of your horses has a large earth content, then, it may not be favourable here. Overall, the only reasonable implied use of horse in Feng Shui is for `success' or to compete for success. This is where, a horse e.g. placed facing the main door; to `literally' go forth to seek business. And some FS practitioners recommend it for those who seek to `travel' especially to travel abroad for business. What if your Jade horse is greenish. Often, colour preceedsthe material in which it covers. Thus, one argument is that the jade horse in green can represent the wood element. In such a situation, under the Five elements concept, wood would draw out or exhaust water. In the above senario 1, it would be detrimental if the horse represents additional earth (if it is in earth tones).Worse, if it also has pink or red colours on it: as fire, will further fuel bad earth. On the flip side, under the Chinese zodiac, a horse is the seven creature and it's element is Fire (south). Dear Rose, *Joke* Perhaps, why there is not much resource in a dentist's waiting room is a real human issue. As all Feng Shui practitioners are (human - flesh and blood); I can say for myself, I dread going to a dentist myself! Erh.. can I excuse myself from this topic:( Jokes aside, Feng Shui can be applied in a dental clinic. I will try to recollect some of the important points for you: 1. Clinic Logo You can mention that often, the investor (often the dentist himself) sets up his/her own practise. For the purpose of this message, when I refer to his / him (I am refering to him or her) else I may inadvertently anger ladies listening in!. A dentist may consult a geomancer to look at his Ba Zi (Heaven Luck) or Pillars of Destiny. After doing the colour scheme and design can be selected. For example, if for a single dentist: and say if he is a weak wood person; under the Five elements concept, water helps or support weak wood. Thus, his business logo can contain e.g. wavy pattern or blue (black). 2. Yin and Yang Concept Yang refers to masculine, cold etc.. while yin soft, and warm. You should try to look at resources pertaining to Yin and Yang concept. For example, when one has a heart attack (e.g. yang activity); we go to a yin place such as a hospital to recover. Since many of us percieve or view clinics to be cold, some hospitals often try to give a more warmth environment. For example, some of the local hospitals in my country go for a more humane or warmer colour dress for the nurse. Here, the Singapore General Hospital and the Catholic Mount Alvernia hospital go for green tones for their nurses, and senior nurses. Thus, you could perhaps mention that a dental clinic, could perhaps, try to apply colours to the uniform of their nursing assistant instead of simply wearing white. Which many of us, have grown and `feared' most since white is one of the earlest colours for nurse wear. A bouquet of flower or plants in such a clinic, brings more warmth into a rather `cold' waiting room. Another area is perhaps: pipe in music. You could perhaps elaborate that soothing music e.g. classical or latin or any other soothing music be placed. Alternatively, tuning into a popular `lively' music station can help to `calm the savage soul'. 3. Do research more into this three Luck areas: 3.1 Tien Cai (Heaven Luck) I have briefly elaborated - company logo based on this area. 3.2 De Cai (Feng Shui) You can perhaps elaborate or try to research more on Xuan Kong Feng Shui or Shapes and Forms Feng Shui. For example, it can be used to look into the placement of the reception area etc. 3.3 Ren Cai (Human luck) As mentioned above, music and even TV screens can help ease the customer's mind. If we do not see a threat slicing straight into our house, this is normally not a threat. 2. However, if it is an angle of a house and it `cuts' into our house, this is considered a threat. 3. For office buildings, reflective glass can be considered as a threat, since it reflects or deflect light. 4. For the home, a threat can seeminly come from the walls of another house. For example, if the afternoon sun, shines onto this wall, and from our window, we get a really bad reflective glare, this can be considered as deflected, sha qi. A simple solution is the use of a set of day curtains on this window. 5. Therefore, everything should be considered as a threat. 6. For all homes, it is a real advantage to have a symmetrical roof as this is symbolic of an UP sign. Dear all, 1. Further to what I had mentioned, I have actually written this note, several years back in this same forum. 2. My uncle in Malaysia, met his wife on an aeroplane flight. 3. At that time, his wife to be mother, or future mother-in-law; somehow, want to invite a Japanese `god (or devil)' which was kept in a `Japanese - coffin' or I consider this as a "Japanese coffin" god. 4. What happened was that, for the first few years, it gave his mother-in-law good luck. But afterwards, took her life. When she died, it happened that my grandfather (mother side) stayed at the same house (for the funeral). 5. What happened next, was that after the funeral, this devil `followed' my grandfather home to Johor Bahru, Malaysia. At that time, he had unexplained illnesses that the doctor could not detect. 6. Later on, after we discovered, that there was something living in his Johor bungalow, we sealed up the house and try to catch this spirit. It hid in things like Chinese vases. And these had to be smashed, to bring this spirit out of hiding. Eventually, it was captured and thrown into the sea. After, this, my grandfather recovered (suddenly as it had appeared and disappeared). 7. Thus, there are situations also, where the wrong use of a metallic windchime may instead invite such guests into the home. 8. Dear Anon, 1. Yes, on the `surface', trees do seem to be not as advantages. But, most of the time: it depends. 2. The key to this is understanding what is good and `not so favourable' about trees. 3. I will try to recall as many points on trees so that you may have a better understanding:- 3.1 Good: Contrary to popular belief, overall, trees are considered as a `secret weapon' in Feng Shui. The rationale is because with trees, we often have birds. (Or birds chirping away!) 3.2 Good: In a flat location, at the mercy of barren earth, rows of trees can help to slow down `sha qi'. 3.3 Bad: Trees are considered `bad' because, some trees overgrow. And because of this, sunlight is blocked. As a result, a large shadow is cast below this location. For example, If the house has a North to South orientation, trees planted at the North e.g. (frontage) or South (backyard); - this may result in a very yin house or environment within this house. 3.4 For an adult, this can still be tolerable. But imagine, if we have a poor child growing in such an environment. In the future, when this child grows up, there may perhaps be a tendency for him/her to try to select such a house. Or, if not, he/she may even use heavy dark curtains to create such an effect. 3.5 Too yin a house, is thus not advantages for a healthy growing child. More yang activity is better. 3.6 Frankly, there is no issue with trees: other than if the tree trunk slices thru the window. For example, when one stands inside the house/window, a tree trunk slicing inwards of the house is not advantages. But, if it is a bunch of branches, then, so long as it is maintained, is good. If the tree is not properly trimmed, often, the branches could stick into the home. And insects could craw into the home. 3.7 In areas, that are relatively damp; the worry is of the termites. 3.8 Sometime back, I wrote a forum message, that several years back, I visited a home in St Michael's estate in Singapore. This bungalow, happens to be situated approximately 2 kilometers from a canal. 3.9 The "Feng Shui" of the house was considered not favourable: not so much of the actual qi flow but because, one can see cracks on the floor. By chance, I peered at what was felt as cracked ceramic tiles; a termite, came out to `greet' me thru the hole. 4.0 Bad: If the tree has rotted and has become a stump. Dear Vun Fook, 1. He association of a mole on one's face goes along way - in Chinese culture. 2. The `sad' thing about it is - sometimes, it is better not to be aware of it. 3. Given that you had read, the article on mole and had found it "inauspicious", hmm... to me, if it can be removed is fine. If not, try not to think about it. In my opinion, I feel that once one `knows' of it, we may sometimes ponder over it. 4. More often, I do see a situation where, it does not matter whether a mole has been interpreted to be (especially) inauspicious. It is more true, if each of us have an`excellent' outlook in life: i.e. do not worry too much, communicate more with family members and lead a happy life. 5. Dear Guest, 1. The rationale why, the "numbers game" is not used in Feng Shui is; as you had correctly pointed out: it is subject to so many different interpretations! 2. For some race (and dialect) groups, it could be based on phoentic sounds. 3. Since, numbers are to be interpretted so widely or diversly, it would seem furtile to argue which numbers are better. 4. Even in numerology, there are just too many schools. And where do we begin? 5. More importantly, if it is from a Feng Shui angle, often, it is not the number of the unit but rather: the external environment, the site, the building that plays an important part. 5.1 For example, we often find homes with `nice' numbers but these homes could be at a disadvantages location e.g. at a `T' junction or cul de sac location. 5.2 Especially for a home at a `T' junction, it does not really matter if the house number is lovely, since it is considered at the mercy of external sha (bad) qi. Dear Anon, 1.It is always best to understand each concept or theory in order to have a good grasp or proper foundation to help us achieve success. 2. The first thing that comes to my mind when you mentioned Gua or Kua is: 2.1 What is it based on? When we first try to apply this we need to provide an input. For Gua or kua numbers : we merely need our year of birth. However, contrast this carefully with the inputs needed for ba zi analysis. For ba zi (Pillars of destiny) we not only need to have the Year of birth, but also at least the Month, Day of birth. And if we can, try to also use our hour of birth. 2.2 So what is so different with these two concepts? We can tell at a glance that Gua or Kua is not as detailed, since it is based merely on our Year of birth, only. Anyone who can come up with a colour scheme or favourable or unfavourable colours based on Gua or Kua can be said to be too simplistic, at best. 2.3 Contrast this to the ba zi or Pillars of destiny. Where we really need to determine our element and strength. For example: if a person is considered as a weak water person, then, we can say that one's favourable colours for such a person is: metal (white or gold) and water (blue, black or gray). Dear Anon, 1. Drawing a parallel, nowadays, also, this type of Feng Shui is too general to be effective. It is like the notion of North = career sector; SW = romance sector. 2. Although: West is associated with metal; East with wood; there is not much this can tell us. 3. A more accurate interpretation is to apply Flying Star Feng Shui. This is because each sector has three variables: the mountain star; the water star and the base star. 4. For example, the Flying Star analysis is based on the birth chart of each home. Here, one needs to know the year the house was born or had a major renovation. The direction of the house. 4.1 Senario 1: ============== If this (west) sector has a 5 2 2 A fire place at this sector may be considered unfavourable since #5 = bad earth or misfortune/sickness and #2 is sickness star. Given this senario, a fire place with real fire represents: fire element. Under the productive sequence of the Five elements concept: Fire helps or fuel earth. Given this understanding, if this sector is not controlled or neutralised, then this is very unfavourable. Given such a situation, one should introduce metal to this sector. 4.2 Senario 2: ============= If the Flying Star charts are: 3 4 7 Since #3 is bad wood and #4 also bad wood, a fire place (fire is beneifical) here. This is because, under the productive sequence of the Five elements concept: Fire is used to `burn' off or neutralise bad wood elements. We can look at it from a different angle. What say if we want to place a water feature at such a location? 3 7 4? Again, under the productive sequence of Five elements concept: Water aids or fuels wood. Dear Anon, 1. Often, this has more to do with psychology (or beliefs) then Feng Shui. 2. For example, many of us, cannot stand the sight of blood or `cruelty'. In nature, fishes, often caught live fishes and eat them. 3. Other than the above, or for the person who feeds the fish, if one is conscious of such activity, then, one may feel unease. 4. This category of activity should be classified more of a `Ren cai'(human / man luck activity). 5. Often we have `dealings' and communication with our loved ones, friends and at work. 5. We can draw a parallel to what you had mentioned to (extreme cases). Often, we hear that a criminal e.g. one that had taken someone else life. Sometimes, we hear that this person, had taken to the `cloth' or came closer to god e.g. became a christian. 6. Similarly, someone who had fed live fishes this way may one day, decide, that since visibly, he / she sees insects or smaller fishes eaten alive, could perhaps cannot stomach this any more. Far from this single view or vocab that red = fire; red alternatively also represents auspiciousness for the Chinese. 3. Understanding the Five Elements Concept:- 3.1 Besides what I mentioned under Para 2, everything that is tied in red, therefore is symbolic of `auspiciousness'. 3.2 The Six coins cure and the red string or ribbon: For the six coins cure: Six represents `big metal'. The square hole at the centre of this six coins represents `earth' element. Earth element helps to strengthen metal element. (For example, a house located at a `T' junction. 3. Often, it is placed outside the main entrance door or above the window of a house. 4. However, what Pillars of Destiny (Ba Zi) or Eight Characters (or proper use of it is) to try to relate our birth chart to the Lowest Common Denominator (L.C.M.) of the Five Elements Concept. Compass School: Flying Star Feng Shui also uses this L.C.M. i.e. the Five Elements concept. Given this base-line, we can try to harmonise our `birth-chart' to our earth dwelling (home or work location). It is this proper harmonising by using the Five Elements concept - to try to do this. In addition, even things like `space clearing' can help. Here, simple things like air-circulation inside a home can help to promote good qi. Another key ingredient for good Feng Shui. Besides this; human luck such as a happy contented family is good. It is the three `holy' trinity: Heaven Luck (Ba zi); Earth Luck (Feng Shui) and Human Luck (family, friends and relationships) that can help to boost all our luck. Unfortunately, the greatest ill, today is the over exploitation of Human Luck: not in the form of relationships but (very highly) commercialised products. These products are unfortunately highly questionable. Eventually, all these end up collecting dust. Unlike, human feelings and relationships, which can instead be memorable. Imagine our childhood.
