Dear Peck Wun, In particular, often a wall piece mirror is placed as a decorative item especially next to the dining table (a common practise amongst the Cantonese dialect group). In such a situation, since this area is fully visible, it would not be good to place a two piece mirror here. It would therefore preferable in the above case to avoid a twin split mirror. Therefore, even if there are several renovations or major renovations done e.g. in 2001, 2002 or even this year; your apartment will still be a Period 7 apartment/house. Where possible try not to do any work at South South-Weat or 210 degrees. If this is at true compass direction South-West, then it is still ok. If you have a compass, try to locate the centerpoint of your home. Stand there and confirm that the location is not South South-West 210 degrees. No, this is minor and no issue. Dear Vun Fook, 1. Usually, the placement of a water feature (in side the home) can be based on either: 1.1 Shapes and Forms and/or 1.2 Flying Star Feng Shui 2. For a typical Shapes and Forms practitioner, they will often ask one to place it just after the main entrance door (wall) or in the living room. 3. These practitioners often, advise that the water position can be placed at the `water' position or water refers to clear space much like the space in the living room or balcony area of a home. 4. For a Flying Star practitioner, often, they will try to place it (with some consideration based on the Shapes and Forms) plus, see if a water position can be placed especially at locations with #7 or #6 or even locations. 5. But the caution is that it would not be favourable to place a water feature at locations where there are several #3 or #4 (bad wood) elements. Since water can help fuel further wood. 6. In seveal of my past forum messages, I mentioned that it would be more beneifical to have water outside of the home (espeically) for a landed property: 6.1 Water at the frontage would mean that nothing else can be built above it - to block the view or allow for clear space. 6.2 A good water feature should be vibrant - have a vibrant water flow where water frictions with the air. 7. In a home, especially if there is already high humidity especially in countries close to the equator; if one goes to work and leave the water fountain on, the house may end up with a higher humidity. This may not be favourable with the aged (family member) and the young or children. 8. To activate a mountain, we do not necessarily need a crystal. Crystal glass was only invented recently. The only difference I find between the Mandarin ducks vs the three legged toad is that: perhaps, the pair of mandarin ducks appeal more to westerners. While many Chinese: in Singapore, many of the lower (middle) income Chinese e.g. living in three or four room flats have such a three legged toad. All these are fool hardy, given that the money goes into the pocket of the seller. Frankly, should treat all these as decoration. If one likes say a painting, it can be pleasing to one's eyes. In fact, most of the material goods, objects of art etc... should be treated more or related to Human luck (man) luck. Sometimes, we all want to feel "comfortable". Many of us, want to know where is our wealth corner. If told there is `none' many may be taken aback. All these are psychological. For many of us, we purchase because we were "told" that these objects are beneficial to us. But, there are many Human Luck, elements that are free! Dear Anon, In Feng Shui, if one literally lifts off the roof; this is symbolic of a `major' renovation and qualifies for a change of period. Symbollically, it implies that if one repaints the entire ceiling of the house at one go, this should change to period 8. In my opinion, rebuilding your kitchen especially removing the stove and refitting the kitchen can qualify for a change to period 8. But often, the influence would come not immediately but say, 8 or 9 months after the renovation. For renovating your kitchen: 1. Please be careful NOT to renovate at compass direction 210 degrees this year. - South South-West (Location of Grand Duke of Jupiter). Else this brings several years of bad luck. Alternatively, it is not ideal to renovate directly opposite this location i.e say at 30 degrees North. 2. It is best to choose an auspicious date to start renovations i.e. in particular the removal of the stove. And also best to find a suitable date to place it back. Dear Anon, 1. Further to what I had mentioned, what was mentioned below, is considered a modern invention. And have very low success rate. 2. Drawing a parallel, locally in my country, a typical low success rate has the following characteristics:- 2.1 The breadwinner has been staying in the same house for more than 3 or more years. 2.2 This typical house often: has a figurine of a laughing buddha and or a three-legged toad. 2.3 The owner is often a Chinese educated person. (Often stay in a 3 or 4 room government housing board flat). 2.4 Often, believes wholeheartedly of a wealth corner. And, if need be, would often place a ba gua mirror at the main door. Often, many of such objects placed in their homes does not guarantee success or progress - if any. Unfortunately, majority of these people, practise such `wrong type' of Ren Cai or Human luck. Their human luck is based on objects, figurines etc... My advise for them is, not to waste their money on such objects. But instead: when was the last time they spent more time with their family. Or instead of spending so much money on such items, should instead, used it that can help improve their own and family lives. Dear Anon, 1. If one hires a Feng Shui practitioner who practises (Ren Cai) or Human/Man luck Feng Shui, more often, a fountain is placed close to the main entrance door area. 2. But, honestly, the placement of a fountain comes under the following considerations:- 2.1 It is not advisable to have a fountain - especially if the breadwinner is a weak fire or strong water person. As a water position can overwhelm the weak fire or extinguish his weak fire. If one is a strong water person, too much water can also overwhelm him/her. 2.2 What is the actual purpose of a fountain? 2.2.1 If one is living on a landed property, a water position especially at the frontage does help. This is because, if there is a fountain or water position, it implies that there can never a built-up area above this area. Thus -- clear space or like a bird flying freely at the frontage of this area. 2.2.2 Image a large waterfall, or a large fountain. 2.2.3 The key success of such a vibrant flow is that the water droplets `friction' against the air. This friction is often said to create `cluster ions' that can help bond bad ions or fuse them. Thus neutralising or cleasing the air/ or surrounding. 2.2.3 Now imagine what a small tiny fountain does? In countries like Singapore, where we are at the equator, there is already lots of humidity in the air. Imagine, placing a fountain inside the house. This may become unhealthy to family members especially the young. Since, the water in the fountain often evaporates. And worse, if we close the windows. 2.2.3 Please do a search for " Rivervale " and if you have the time, try to read the article on Rvervale cresent condominium in Singapore. And learn why the water position in this condo is considered as a `stagnant' water. 3. Under Flying Star Feng Shui, and based on the productive sequence of the Five elements concept: metal helps water. Thus, if we really want to find out our so call wealth element based on Flying Star Feng Shui, than often, the water feature is placed at locations such as #7 (weak metal) and #6 (strong metal) positions. 4. For example, under the current period 7, some homes have what we call double #7's at the main entrance (for the 20 year Flying Star). Under such a situation, and since this is the frontage area; the double #7 metal can take advantage of water. This is then truly called finding proper location(s) to activate water position. Dear Anon, 1. For a threat towards the interior of the home: If one looks out of the window, one should not see a lone tree slicing thru the window. If so, a simple day curtain to screen or a blind would be useful. 2. Yin and Yang concept: Often, a large tree is not advisable especially if it has lots of branches and leaves. The rationale here is that, because of the tree, what is underneath the tree becomes `dark' i.e. no sunlight penetrate thru. And it is because of this; that we consider the location or area `yin'. Too yin, or darked area, is not really too good. 3. Often, it is said that spirits (or for those who believe in spirits); a spirit may harbour or hide inside the tree trunk. Not too ideal also. 4. At your end, as mentioned under Para 1, so long as the trunk of the tree does not slice into your house, this is acceptable. Often, we do not have control of our neighbour's action or property. And also the roof has been modified or enhanced, this is very strong grounds for qi change. And thus, most likely, will affect your house period. 3. It is very interesting to note that, currently our life span is relatively short e.g. 60 to 80 or even 90 years. 4. Since one Flying Star chart is based on 20 years each, many Feng Shui practitioners that are alive today, cannot really provide an exact answer. Anyone claiming to be 100 percent sure - should be looked at with a pinch of salt. 5. Here, for example if a Feng Shui practitioner is say 58 years old, most likely, assuming that he practices Feng Shui, he can at most have gone thru only one period change i.e. the 1983 Period 6 Feng Shui. 6. A Feng Shui practitioner who is 80 years old may probably go thru 2 of such periods. Dear Sor Lan, Please see below:- Before touching on with your question, in the past, I have mentioned on two issues: 1. double decker beds ===================== Previously, there were some concerns that double decker beds are unhealthy for the young. But, in my opinion, and also that many (many) people have actually slept in a double decker bed, there is really no issue here. Some FS practitioners spell out the notion that the person sleeping at the lower decker is like having a beam above their head. I personally do not agree with this argument. This is because unlike a beam (concentrated) at the specific spot, the upper bed is relatively flat and does not exert an unequal press below it. As mentioned above, there are lots of healthy adults who because of space constraints, had successfully, grown up healthy. 2. a bed must be raised ======================= Some FS practitioners `swear' that one should sleep on a raised bed to allow qi to circulate below the bed. Again, this is simply speculation. Many responsible parents, prefer that their young e.g. of 1 year to 6 or more years sleep on a simple floor bed. Here, the child can simply walk to their bed. And it also minimize any falls from the bed to the ground. In fact, based on your description, lots of children also sleep in this similar position. And I personally feel that there is no issue here. This position is ok. So long as the legs do not point towards the door. If so, this is considered inauspicious or `the coffin position'. Many Feng Shui practitioners especially the traditional school of Feng Shui `requires' that the bed be positioned such that the head face the health or longevity sector. This advise is common amongst all East/West Group (Eight House pratitioners). However, as most of us are aware, a small child often toss and turn and their head can face all sorts of directions in any given night. Who is so cruel as to tie their own child down facing a good direction! This is indeed very cruel - the least. Perhaps, if there is a society for the prevention of cruety to children, one should report the parents to this society! It would be indeed nice to have the head of the bed against a wall. This often means that the bed is in a good position where the persons on the bed can often see who is coming in or out of the room. Often there is a wall prior to the windows above it. And in such a situation, there is often a support already. Yes, I have often encountered such a situation. Last year, there was this house where the bedroom door of the parents room is facing the teenager (son's) room. Often, the son is rebellious against the father. Maybe this is coincidence. But under symbolism in Feng Shui, there is a `cure'. This is where the door knob key holes are painted red. Where, then these two doors close, it is said that the `red eye' will ensure that parties from both rooms look eye to eye or (agree with each other). Warmest Regards, Cecil

Dear Mr Low, One has to take extra care when using water positions in the home: 1. If the breadwinner's ba zi is weak fire or strong water element, water in a home can cause more problems. 2. Specifically, one must understand the two major purpose of the use of water: 2.1 In a real life water fall, it is because of the friction of water with air that brings beneficial results. 2.2 A water feature is useful to provide clear space for the frontage of a building. This is because, nothing else can be built above the water feature or pond i.e. providing clear space. 3. Normally, when placing a water feature outside of the house, check to see if the property is sloping or not. And shapes and forms has to be reviewed. 4. Your situation is akin to trying to work out solutions to beautify the deck of a leaking ship. What is not `seen' is the leaks that may cause such a problem. 5. Given that you and your neighour's home face the same frontage, most likely, the clue can be gotten from Flying Star Feng Shui. 6. I strongly believe that your home has major imbalances with the #3 and #4 (both belong to the disputes /quarrels / legal entanglement stars. And these elements belong to `bad wood' elements. Under the Five element concepts, adding water (either real water or virtual water e.g. blue black or grey) may seriously inflame these stars. Thus, becareful where you place water. Since under the productive sequence of the Five elements: Water supports or fuel Wood (bad wood). At locations that have #3 or #4 or multiples of it, one must therefore, be reminded not to fuel further bad wood by adding water. Often, to fully utilise the bedroom, the bed can be placed against a wall and the head pointing towards the window. This is acceptable as often light filters into the room. And for those who love to lie on the bed to read, this light source is comforting to the eyes. The only `drawback' is based on commonsense approach i.e. if one lives in an apartment: and if there is no safety grille, a bed next to or close to a window can be dangers to a young infant child who could have climbed it and fall out of the window. Otherwise, this is not a major issue. 2) i have read that Recently, I heard from a friend that, this senior officer of a company, who feared that he could be retrenched seeked a Feng Shui practitioner to look at his office. It was really shocking to learn that the practititoner advised him to block the back (windows) and infact surround his entire room will `walls' i.e. high partitions. The only remaining space happens to be the door into this room. This is quite ridiculous senario, just because, he has a back row cabinet and a window behind his desk. Guess what == not long after he followed the advise, he was retrenched anyway! Often in a house, there is still a wall followed by the window. And one still has backing of such a `wall'. No issue. And often this layout makes sense because, natural light filters into the room, making reading or work more comfortable. What could be worse if one's study room faces west. And it is akin to wearing a pair of sun glasses to work. Often this is not an issue. We are on this earth for a limited span of time i.e. 60 to 90 years old. And, why not enjoy all the creature comforts? Many of us have our tolerance level. For example, it is often said that when we sleep, our spirit leave our body. If it sees a mirror, it will get a shock! But what happens if the spirit, leaves the body, wants to `comb' hair before going off? This is like the tale of - not allowing a TV set in the bedroom. So far, we have not read that someone or known cases of people dying just because a tv set was placed in-front of them. 4)i have read As mentioned above, this is all about tolerance level. 5) is If a room has lots of electrical items, the room can be quite warm. It is fine to have a fan circulate in the room. However, for the Chinese, it is often said that one should not have a fan continously blowing against one's body. No good (or wind). But having a fan circulating in a room or house is good. In fact, this is a key success factor in a home. This is where, one can perfectly place our furniture etc.. optimum based on Feng Shui but if there is no `air' circulating in the home, many of the locations become dead qi. This is why, some of the richer people, do turn on aircon. With proper maintenance of aircon, the air circulated by a well maintained aircon can help circulate qi all around a house. Perhaps, more importantly, I would say " taboos are around us everywhere. It is what we choose to make out of our lives is more important ". I often have a distaste of people, buying all sorts of figurines etc... for example, 3 legged toad, laughing buddha etc... more importantly, it does not cost anything or (much) to hug one's child, or have a friendly family atmosphere! Dear Anon, Here are some considerations for a patio:- 1. The best form (shape) is rectangular or square shaped. 2. The side wall or railing of the patio should not be fully clad with stone. Preferably, made of wood and to allow air to circulate thru it and into the home. Circulation of air in a home is one of the keey sucess factors for a home where qi can circulate into the home bringing in fresh air. 3. In particular, avoid a pond (especially a circular one) at the west corner of the patio especially if this is the west compass direction or known as the white tiger location. A pond here is symbolic of the white tiger's open mouth - ready to gobble down it's prey - thus inauspicious. 4. For the support structure such as the column, stone is acceptable. But it would not be favourable to have it made of total stone i.e. inclusive of the railing or deck. The rationale is because, if the patio is west facing, and if there are no trees or neighbour's house to block direct afternoon sun, the stone structure can easily be heated up. Often, a toilet at the centrepoint is considered as one major leak. It is akin to having a fractured arm even before moving into the home. It is because of such a leak plus additional leaks such as the house is not suitable to the breadwinner etc.. that will give problems later to the breadwinners. Since, it would not be good if you actually see your partition torn down and see your table move over to the new location. 2. As your new table is ready, wait for your colleague to move-out. For your move. If you do not have much items, simply place it into boxes such as the paper copier empty boxes. And bring all of them at one go to the new work-top. This is relatively no issue as compared to Para 1. 3. This portion is not Feng Shui but more of a belief:- When you do begin to move; just stroke your back a few times and mumble to yourself ie.
